Job Summary

The Emergency Management Coordinator I assists in the design and direction of a comprehensive emergency management program.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Develops, coordinates, implements and evaluates university and department emergency exercises, drills and checklists
  • Develops, coordinates and hosts public outreach initiatives to train university staff on preparedness and emergency response procedures.
  • Develops, assesse s and prepares reports in compliance with national standards.
  • Assists leadership in the implementation of the university’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan in partnership with university stakeholders.
  • Manages components of the University’s Emergency Notification System. Develops plans and procedures for the system and coordinates system tests.
  • Provides coordination and support during actual disaster and emergency operations, both on-scene and from the Emergency Operations Center.
  • Applies for and manages grants relevant to emergency management initiatives.
  • Develops and maintains website content and other communication tools regarding potential disasters and emergencies.
Other Duties:
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Serves as critical emergency personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.
Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from and accredited institution in Emergency Management, Public Administrations, Business Administration, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Services, or closely related field.
  • Two years of professional full-time experience in emergency management or disaster preparedness.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from and accredited institution in Emergency Management, Public Administrations, Business Administration, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Services, or closely related field.
  • Work experience in a higher education setting.
  • Completion of or ability to complete  FEMA  Independent Study Courses IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800 within twelve months of employment.
  • Completion of or ability to complete  FEMA  Professional Development Series courses IS-120, IS-230, IS-235, IS-240, IS-241, IS-242, and IS-244 within twelve months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, and external partners.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and environments.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations, policies, procedures, and instructions consistently.
Salary: $47,200 to negotiable.
