The Center for Communications Research, Princeton (CCRP) is searching for a manager of its information technology operations. These include about 20 IT staff in networking, systems administration, cyber and information security, telecommunications, video services, and high performance computing (HPC). Together with the assistant director for technology (who is a member of the research staff), the manager of IT operations is responsible for formulating and implementing a vision for computing at CCRP.

CCRP is one of three centers along with the Center for Communications Research, La Jolla (CCRL) and the Center for Computing Sciences (CCS) in Bowie, MD that comprise the Center for Communications and Computing, a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) that is administered by the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA). The three centers work under a common contract from the National Security Agency (NSA) to address scientific problems arising in national security.

CCRP is an intense research environment that resembles an academic department in a university, with approximately 85 research, operations, support, and security staff who work on classified and unclassified computer networks and several HPCs. The research staff consists of about 40 full-time and 80 adjunct scientists who generally have Ph.Ds in mathematics, computer science, physics, electrical engineering and psychology. CCRP provides many IT services to the other two centers, NSA, and other partners in the intelligence research community. This is a highly complex IT operation that has extensive technical and compliance
requirements from the research and operations staff, NSA and IDA.

The successful applicant must have a bachelor’s degree (graduate degree preferred) in Computer Science or related area; ten or more years of progressively responsible work experience operating and managing client-server environments, computers and various network equipment. This experience should include four or more years of experience in management, planning, recruiting and budgeting for a Windows or Linux based operation, as well as in at least one of: networking, systems administration, cyber or information security, and/or HPC.

CCRP is located in Princeton, NJ, which is a great place to live with excellent schools in the area as well as many enjoyable indoor and outdoor activities. We maintain close relations with both Princeton University and the Institute for Advanced Study. In addition to easy access to New York City and Philadelphia, Princeton is a bikeable, cosmopolitan town with high-quality options for dining and the arts.

US citizenship is required. Employment is contingent on obtaining an appropriate security clearance (which we will sponsor). The start date for this position is flexible. CCRP offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits, including relocation support, generous 11% contribution to retirement, health insurance, maternity/paternity leave, 20 days paid time off, life and disability insurance, and an on-site gym. The environment provides for excellent work-life balance and flexibility in work schedules.
