Instruction and Outreach Librarian

Arizona State University seeks creative, learner-focused instruction and outreach librarians to join the E-Learning and Instruction (ELI) Division in the Engagement and Learning Services Directorate of ASU Library. The Instruction and Outreach Librarians report to the Division Head for the E-Learning and Instruction Division.  In partnership with other Outreach and Instruction Librarians, this position will design and implement outreach for undergraduate campus immersion and online students. ELI’s approach to teaching is rooted in learner-centered pedagogy and critical inquiry, with the intent of cultivating inclusive learning environments. We focus on helping students build transferable information literacy knowledge and abilities that are essential to applying critical thinking in academic and personal environments.

Collaborating with colleagues in and outside of ASU Library, Instruction, and Outreach Librarians are responsible for advancing excellence, supporting the development of Library strategic priorities, and generating internal and external support to champion the University’s Charter, Mission, and Goals. Members of the ASU Library Community demonstrate respect and collegiality in all interactions within the Library and across the University. The individuals hired for these roles will demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, professional judgment, knowledge sharing, relationship building, and decision-making practices while reinforcing a commitment to inclusion and equity in daily responsibilities.

The Instruction and Outreach Librarians will work in person, online, and in hybrid formats to effectively perform their essential functions. They will be a part of a team providing information literacy activities for a broad audience of students in a high-volume instruction environment and will participate in the unit’s core functions of teaching, learning, outreach, instructional assessment, advocacy, and professional development, with additional emphases specific to each position.

The Instruction and Outreach Librarians will work across campuses and departments on initiatives that contribute to student success, create an equitable environment, and foster co-curricular user engagement. The candidates will champion library programming and instruction that features a broad array of perspectives and approaches, culturally diverse resources, inclusion and accessibility, commitment to student success, and forward-thinking approaches to the delivery of library services.

Other responsibilities include liaising with academic support units and leading ELI initiatives. The Instruction and Outreach Librarians will receive mentorship and training in job responsibilities, and they will have the opportunity to build skills for leading programs and initiatives.

This position is part of a dedicated cluster hire cohort within the Engagement and Learning Services directorate. Through this approach, ASU Library will dedicate resources and expertise

towards onboarding, peer mentoring, and professional development to ensure the cohort's success, building a network to encourage support, growth, and retention while simultaneously encouraging the research interests and scholarly pursuits of the individual librarians. ASU Library strongly encourages early-career librarians to apply.

The ASU Library is a center of energy, imagination, and innovation, with nine library facilities across four ASU campus locations. We provide students and faculty access to millions of information resources, world-class collections, outstanding study spaces, advanced data centers, and a suite of maker spaces and creative services. ASU Library strongly supports student success and is a critical partner in realizing the New American University’s mission of access, excellence, and impact.
