Position has primary responsibility to administer all payroll activities for the university. Must meet all fixed internal and bank deadlines for each payroll process. Decisions and process review must be timely and accurate, as they directly impact all faculty and staff.

  • Coordinates and administers payroll function, including the manual and electronic input of all payroll and related transactions. This includes the set-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all facets of the payroll system (Banner) and the payroll process itself.  Independently researches and resolves routine and moderately complex payroll and compensation issues/discrepancies. Establishes and interprets basic payroll policies and practices for employees.
  • Maintains highly confidential payroll records and information in order to comply with appropriate University, State, and Federal policies and regulations.
  • Responsible for payment of all benefit premiums to vendors. Responsible for processing and filing quarterly payroll tax returns (Form 941).
  • Reconcile payroll liability accounts on a monthly basis and forward reconciliation(s) to closing coordinator.
  • Responsible for filing other payroll information returns as necessary.
  • Create and/or update the NBAJOBS record for all employees. Work with the Provost Office to obtain and verify information for faculty creation; work with Human Resources (HR) to obtain and verify Payroll Action Form (PAF) information for staff creation.
  • Calculate and generate all backpay situations that arise in the respective payrolls impacted.
  • Represent the F&A Office and act as a liaison between HR and the university’s retirement fund administrator(s) in order to reconcile and/or correct any discrepancies between Belmont’s ERP and the third-party retirement administrator’s system.
  • Work directly with Administrative IT and Belmont’s ERP administrators to generate necessary reports and/or analysis to assist with any discrepancies between Belmont’s ERP  system and any third-party retirement administrator’s system. Qualifications

  • Must know State and Federal payroll tax laws. 
  • Ability to produce pivot table reports using MS Access and Excel required. 
  • Ability to manage electronic data files including feeds and interfaces between different software applications.
  • Experience with having to meet fixed deadlines and work in a periodically high-pressured role.

Experience

• Two plus years payroll experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of SCT Banner or similar software strongly preferred.

Education

Associates degree in Business (Finance, Accounting, etc.) or equivalent experience preferred.
