Job Details

Function: Reporting directly to the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Director of Assessment will provide key leadership for the College’s ongoing work in the operation, enhancement, and strategic use of a comprehensive program of educational assessment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Serves as chair of the College’s Assessment Committee, providing direction and
    leadership for comprehensive, coordinated, and effective programs of assessment,
    collaborating effectively with deans, faculty, and other individuals across campus to meet these goals.
  2. Coordinates work and initiatives with the Dean of the School of Education, Dean for
    Faculty Development, and Director of the Center for Teaching.
  3. Provides leadership for using assessment to enhance course design and pedagogy.
  4. Provides expertise in developing and conducting professional development and other programs that equip faculty to the highest degree for course design, assessment, and continuous improvement.
  5. Responsible for the effective reporting of assessment results to the College’s faculty, department chairs, deans, and others on campus; this reporting will include both standard and ad-hoc reporting.
  6. Collaborates with staff and others responsible for institutional research, accreditation, and other reporting.
  7. Provides guidance and oversight implementation and operation of the College’s learning management system and other assessment software.
  8. Manage and enhance a comprehensive assessment program that aligns with the college's mission, goals, and accreditation standards.
  9. Support use of assessment results to enhance course design and pedagogy, improve student learning outcomes, and support institutional decision-making.
  10. Support and/or lead the college's efforts to create a culture of assessment and data-informed decision-making.
  11. Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of assessment data.
  12. Collaborate with deans and others to provide training and support for faculty and staff to conduct assessment activities.
  13. Communicate assessment results and trends to internal and external stakeholders.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
In order to fully perform the above functions, the incumbent must possess the following
knowledge, skills and abilities, or demonstrate that the major responsibilities of the job can be  accomplished, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities.

  • Must profess faith in Jesus Christ as Lord; must accept Gordon’s Statement of Faith; must practice Christian values in daily interactions with students, faculty, staff and the public as outlined by Gordon’s Statement of Life and Conduct; and must work to advance Gordon’s mission through this position.
  • Master's degree in Education, Statistics, Data Analysis or related area required.
  • Experience in higher education, experience with student learning outcomes assessment and formal assessment processes including assessment design, evaluation methodologies, and educational assessment required.
  • Leadership skills to support and enhance an environment in which assessment is both valued and supports pedagogical excellence.
  • Experience developing and delivering profession development related to assessment.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Computer skills including experience with specialized assessment software.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and collaboration skills.
