The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) of Western Michigan University is seeking dynamic and visionary candidates for the position of Chair, Department of Engineering Design, Manufacturing, and Management Systems, starting July 1, 2023. The EDMMS Department offers an ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in Engineering Design Technology and Manufacturing Engineering Technology and an MS in Manufacturing Engineering. The Department also participates in Ph.D. in Engineering and Applied Science. Currently, the department has 8 tenure-track faculty, 2 term-appointed faculty, and approximately 100 students.  Additional information can be found on our website at https://wmich.edu/edmms.

The Department is in the process of moving to digital engineering in its program offerings. It promotes hands-on learning and applied-research initiatives. The successful candidate will provide guidance in establishing these goals and ensuring their implementation. The Chair must collaboratively manage the faculty and staff, develop positive relationships with students, and communicate well with the College and University administration. Candidates must have Ph.D. in an engineering discipline and a record warranting tenure at the full-professor level in the Department. Application screening for the position will start on May 1, 2023; however, the position will remain open until filled.

To support hands-on experience for students, the department has labs in CAD/Simulation, integrated design, metal casting, plastics, AM with plastics and metal, CNC, fabrication, process evaluation, fluid power, and metrology. Additionally, the Department offers programs at the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) Lab in Grand Rapids (https://wmich.edu/grandrapids/amp-lab).

The CEAS has seven academic departments, with programs in engineering, engineering technology, and applied sciences, and is housed in a 300,000-square-foot facility located on a 270-acre engineering campus. This site includes a state-of-the-art engineering complex and a Business Technology & Research Park.

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has designated WMU among the Doctoral Universities: High Research Activity. WMU has an enrollment of over 17,000 students in eight colleges. Western Michigan University is in Kalamazoo, about halfway between Chicago and Detroit. Kalamazoo, west Michigan's cultural and educational center, has a vibrant technological industry with a strong manufacturing and service presence.

Applications will be accepted electronically through the university's website at https://wmich.edu/hr/jobs (posting F074P). Submit PDF files containing a cover letter, curriculum vitae, strategic vision statement, and contact information for five references. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
