Associate Vice President (Research)

To promote the research excellence of EdUHK, an Associate Vice President (Research) (AVP(R)) position at Chair Professor or Professor rank is established to formulate strategies for nurturing a multidisciplinary research ambiance and activities. The appointee will join the team of the respective Faculty’s highly qualified scholars and affiliate with one of the cognate departments. The appointee will contribute to his/her affiliated department’s teaching, research, project supervision, knowledge transfer projects/activities, programme and curriculum development, and programme and course management at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

In collaboration with the Vice President (Research and Development), the appointee will develop and monitor research clusters formed by faculty members of EdUHK in collaboration with other renowned institutions to launch world-class research programs addressing society’s problems related to but not limited to basic education and life-long learning; language development and learning; information literacy and social network; environment, sustainability and governance; educational technology and learning; and life and career development across the life span. As AVP(R), a senior member of the University, they will mainly be tasked to:

  • Formulate, drive, and implement multidisciplinary research initiatives in alignment with the strategic areas of research development of the University;
  • Nurture close collaborative relationships among faculty members of different disciplines within and outside the University to develop high-quality, large-scale research proposals for bidding of external research grants;
  • Build research clusters across various disciplines of translational nature to strengthen knowledge transfer and commercialization of the research works;
  • Organize university-level research seminars and symposia;
  • Oversee the operation of the Human Ethics Review Committee;
  • Provide executive support and advice to major Committees and research activities of the University, e.g., the Committee on Research and Development, and regular research salons and seminars/symposia.

Applicants should have a Doctoral degree in education, science and technology, social science or other relevant areas with proven records of leading large-scale multidisciplinary research programs. The appointee should have a substantial and distinguished record of publication and research grant, joined editorial boards of well-regarded international journals and has gained an international standing in his/her field. The appointee should display a personal commitment to the mission of EdUHK and be committed to making service commitment through the development of less experience colleagues via formal and informal leadership and mentoring. The appointee should have strong leadership, a strong work ethic, personal integrity, excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and planning skills. Knowledge of research policies and initiatives in Hong Kong SAR, Mainland China, and overseas is preferred. A strong network with Mainland China and institutions in the Greater Bay Area is an advantage.

Attractive and competitive remuneration will be offered to suitable candidates. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.  Fringe benefits include contract-end gratuity, leave, medical and dental benefits, and where applicable, housing benefits.
