Research Asst Professor - Media Forensics Hub

Location: 320 Wilbur O. and Ann Powers Hall, Clemson, SC

Description

The Media Forensics Hub at Clemson University (Clemson, SC) seeks applicants for a research faculty position to contribute to a variety of data-intensive projects analyzing disinformation, deception, and inauthenticity online. The initial appointment is for two years, during which time the candidate will provide valuable technical expertise, especially in the collection and analysis of large and diverse social-media datasets.

The selected candidate will contribute to ongoing efforts analyzing deception and inauthenticity online, but they will be expected to build their own research program as they mature in the position. As part of this ongoing work, a successful candidate will develop new modes of analysis for large datasets containing records from known inauthentic social-media accounts. They will apply existing NLP, ML, and statistics techniques to analyze social media data in new ways and develop descriptive and statistical models to robustly characterize the strategy and tactics employed by bad actors.

The goal of the position is to strengthen the already strong research program in disinformation and media forensics at Clemson University by increasing the ability to access and analyze reliable and comparable data across platforms. Someone who is a great fit for this position will grow to lead several ongoing projects in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students at Clemson and around the world.

Expected Start Date: The start-date for this position is flexible from immediately through the summer of 2023.
