Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Director of Client and Core Services, the IT Systems Manager is responsible for end user desktop and mobile computing IT operations in the Penn Libraries. The position will supervise a staff of IT support professionals, and will provide leadership, guidance, and high-level technical expertise. The IT Systems Manger oversees and directs configuration, deployment, management, policy setting, and security of end-user computing hardware, networking, software and applications. They ensure reliability and service continuity in heavily-trafficked campus facilities that provide round the clock access to networked resources and support on-site and remote staff. The position requires a high level of competence in managing Windows Active Directory, deploying and updating systems and software using Jamf, MDT and endpoint management services like BigFix. Additionally, the position collaborates with colleagues on IT security and privacy policy enforcement, and acts as technical lead for complex large scale projects. The ideal candidate thrives in a diverse technical landscape, keeps abreast of trends in technology, and enjoys empowering users. In all areas, the primary goal is to provide reliable, easy to use, secure services that meet the customer's needs.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Develop OS and application configurations for deployment to end user devices. Manage systems for ongoing deployment of software, updates and patches to devices. This work is currently performed using a combination of MDT, BigFix and Jamf and includes both Windows and Mac systems.
- Perform system administration focused on endpoint and user management for Windows Active Directory domains. Duties include some server management, user and computer management, group policy management, and Windows client/server application administration and upgrades.
- Supervise IT support staff. Assign work, review performance, and provide training in systems and services.
- Perform 3rd Tier support and resolve problems from other IT support staff.
- Act as technical lead and/or project manager for highly technical departmental and library-wide initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- A bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science or similar field and a minimum of 2-3 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experiences.
- Prior leadership and supervisory experience.
- Applicant must have proven skills successfully providing technical support for Windows, Mac and mobile operating systems and supporting users in large Active Directory domain environments.
- Experience with Windows domain management tools and client server and cloud-based applications management.
- Experience with modern endpoint deployment and management applications such as Jamf and BigFix.
- Strong customer service orientation and excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.
- Proven ability to problem-solve effectively and independently.
Preferred:
- Automated & user-initiated enrollment workflows.
- Advanced Bash/Zsh scripting & leveraging the Jamf API.
- Advanced packaging and policy deployment workflows, including working with Smart & Static Groups and Extension Attributes.
- Advanced Jamf Pro server configuration & integrations, including Apple School/Business Manager, User Accounts, LDAP servers & Jamf Infrastructure Manager, certificate management, VPP, etc.
- Integration of third-party & open-source tools.
- Security workflows: FileVault 2, System Extensions, and PPPC.
- macOS internals: launch agents/daemons, plists & config profiles, Apple security platform, and permissions & file systems hierarchy.

$80,000 -- $100,000 commensurate with education and experience.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
