JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Florida’s only public university exclusively teaching science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) is looking for exceptional candidates to serve as a Senior Accountant in the department of the University Controller.

The Senior Accountant performs accounting functions such as reconciling, monitoring, analyzing, and reporting financial information. The position reviews/posts routine & non-routine journal entries in the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers; prepares/reviews account reconciliations; prepares audit schedules and contributes to management reporting. In addition to general accounting functions, this position will be responsible for accounting in the Controller’s Office for all Auxiliary units (dining, housing, meal plans, etc.) and maintaining good relationships with Auxiliary owners.

JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Accounting for Auxiliary units.
  • Maintaining weekly contact and building relationships; responding to inquiries from the campus community.
  • Review/post campus-wide journal entries ensuring that each transaction is valid, complete, accurate, properly authorized, classified and recorded in the appropriate period.
  • Balance sheet reconciliations as assigned to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and GAAP.
  • Revenue and expense analysis to determine reasonableness, investigating significant variances and corroborating explanations using financial/non-financial data as necessary.
  • Backup other accountants as needed.
  • Support executive level management with presentations/schedules and/or other financial requests from external parties.
  • Inform, guide, and assist the campus community about policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as assigned and relevant to position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Must possess critical thinking skills. Ability to establish goals and priorities and make decisions based on processes and institutional policies.

  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, Workday, or other ERP systems.

  • Must have a strong knowledge in generally accepted accounting principles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Management or Business Administration and five years of accounting experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in Higher Education environment.
  • Experience in fund accounting.
  • Experience Workday
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • This position requires a criminal background check, which may include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute §435.04.
  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is salary exempt. The normal work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., however, occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required. Travel between campus locations may be required. Remote and/or flexible schedules are available when approved. In no case, is full remote available.

TARGET HIRING SALARY: $75,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience.
