JOB SUMMARY

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Shared Services Office at the University of Connecticut seeks qualified applicants for the position of IT Team Lead 2 for the CLAS Information Technology team. Under the direction of the CLAS Shared Services Director of IT, the candidate will have oversight of professional and non-professional staff, as well as business and/or administrative operations in support of research within the College. The candidate will work with the team by providing domain competency and technical support for research in the College as well as playing an active role in implementing technology solutions. The candidate will provide advanced analysis and assessment of the current state, create recommendations, and implement technology solutions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Modify practices and procedures to improve efficiency and quality of service delivered by the team.
  • Research and apply better ways to effectively achieve end results by, for example, arranging/rearranging the way work is performed, and changing elements of processes.
  • Set team objectives, immediate- and/or long-term, as a means to fulfill departmental or division initiatives.
  • Provide analytical, technical, and advisory support to team members.
  • May determine how to achieve directives set by directors, at a department level.
  • Schedules, assigns, oversees, and reviews work.
  • Provides team training and assistance.
  • Determines team priorities and plans teamwork.
  • Acts as the liaison between other IT departments and external customers.
  • Evaluates and recommends new strategies and technologies.
  • Oversees and participates in upgrades to systems, applications, networks, and hardware.
  • Works with IT staff to identify and resolve system errors.
  • Implements new systems.
  • Develops and reviews procedures, techniques, or programs to analyze or improve the performance and efficiency of software and hardware systems.
  • Identifies and works with vendors and management to develop or enhance products.
  • Maintains accountability for ensuring the availability and continuity of services or systems. 
  • Manages staff accountable for installation, upgrade, and maintenance of technology.
  • Collaborates across IT teams to achieve assigned tasks and meet division goals. 
  • Support the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of University information as part of the overall University Information Security Program.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree in computer science or a related field and eight years of related experience or a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and six years of related experience or ten years of related experience.
  • One year of experience serving as a supervisor of a moderate-sized department or leading major projects.
  • In-depth technical knowledge and the ability to design and support information technology services in a multi-tiered environment.
  • Knowledge of system analysis, design, development, and programming.
  • Knowledge of Linux System Administration.
  • Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems.
  • Knowledge of macOS.
  • Planning, prioritization, and organization of assigned tasks.
  • Troubleshooting, critical thinking, problem-solving, and analysis. 
  • Actively investigate, learn, and apply new skills and technologies.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in addition to top-notch customer service.
  • Ability to handle non-trivial technical problems or other IT-related tasks while potentially under stress or with time constraints.
  • Thorough understanding of computer hardware, software, peripherals, and standard operating systems including servers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical certification by CompTIA, Microsoft, Apple, etc.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with RedHat Enterprise.
  • Experience working in a research setting.
  • Experience writing or adapting scripts or programming.
  • Experience with software development.
  • Experience with Jira.
  • Experience with Asset Management. 
  • Ability to work with diverse student, administrative, and faculty populations and provide a commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational setting.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time position. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Salary will be commensurate with successful candidate's background and experience. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
