Job Details

The Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a 75% teaching, 25% research faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position carries the expectation of excellence in teaching and research commensurate with the land grant mission of Oklahoma State University.

 

Position Description
The successful candidate will (a) teach undergraduate courses in animal science relative to their expertise and the needs of the Department with preference given to candidates with the experience or ability to teach one or more of the following: animal genetics, principles of animal nutrition, animal health and diseases, or upper-division production courses; (b) recruit, advise, and mentor undergraduate students and graduate students; (c) contribute to the scholarship of teaching through innovative teaching approaches, curriculum development, external teaching grants/contracts, and other forms of scholarly effort; (d) develop an applied or basic research program in their field of expertise and demonstrate ability to bring extramural funding.

 

The successful candidate will have opportunities to (a) advise student organizations and/or competitive teams; (b) develop a study abroad program; (c) contribute to other Departmental needs; (d) represent the Department at state, regional, and national meetings, and conferences. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate in teaching and research with other faculty in the Department and the University as appropriate.  

Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Animal Science or a closely related field. Applicants must be committed to teaching excellence with a strong animal agriculture background. The successful applicant must be a dedicated teacher with a passion for student success. They must also have documented experience in scholarly activities in teaching and research. Preference will be given to individuals with university teaching experience, strong oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills with diverse audiences, and a record of successful collaboration in an academic environment.

Employment Conditions
This position is to be filled by July 1, 2023, or as soon as suitable candidates are identified. The position is 11-month, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive and based on qualifications and experience. Retirement and long-term disability, medical, dental and life insurance programs are available to employees. Continuation of this position is subject to performance, needs and available funding.

The Department of Animal and Food Sciences has over 1100 undergraduate students, 65 M.S. and Ph.D. students, and 28 faculty. The department is home to nine undergraduate student organizations and seven competitive undergraduate teams.
