Position Summary:
The college of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Software Engineering for the 2023-2024 academic year. This is a full-time, nine-month position with anticipated August 2023 start date.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated competency teaching multiple existing and the capacity to develop and teach courses within their area of expertise
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Ph.D. in computer science, software engineering, or related field.
- An ABD (all but dissertation), if hired, will be contractually obligated to have earned their Ph.D. by January 1, 2024. The preferred candidate would be on track to achieve their Ph.D. by the start date.
- Minimum experience of one semester teaching computer science or software engineering at the college level as an instructor or a teaching assistant.
- Applicants must have evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education in an engineering environment and a willingness to collaborate with both students and faculty.
- Ability to teach a variety of Computer Science and Software Engineering courses.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Why It’s Great to be a Pioneer:
The Computer Science and Software Engineering Department currently has 13 full-time faculty members and offers B.S. degrees in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, and Software Engineering. In collaboration with our sister UW institutions, we also offer an online M.S. in Cybersecurity and an online B.S. in Applied Computing. The department has experienced growth in recent years in terms of new programs as well as student enrolment. Our software engineering program is now the second-largest ABET-accredited program in Wisconsin. The department recently moved into the new engineering complex on our campus.
