Ohio University seeks a collaborative and inclusive leader to serve as its Executive Director for Inclusive Excellence. The Executive Director will serve as an advisor to the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion and work collaboratively with the D&I staff to create a culture of inclusion and respect within the Division and throughout the university. The individual will serve as a strategic partner with the Vice President of D&I to realize the University’s priorities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; form and cultivate partnerships with campus stakeholders and organizations outside the university to further the diversity and inclusion agenda; represent the Vice President of D&I on committees and task forces; ensure accuracy and timely execution of programs, activities, and projects in alignment with the Division’s strategy and OHIO’s goal of creating an inclusive campus community where students, faculty and staff feel a sense of belonging.

Duties include:

 

  1. Leadership and Strategic Oversight:
  • Work in partnership with the Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion to realize the University’s strategic priorities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Work collaboratively with D&I staff to create a culture of inclusion and respect within the Division.
  • Assist in relationship-building, represent and advocate for the Division with campus stakeholders, including the regional campuses.
  • Form and cultivate strategic partnerships with individuals and organizations outside the university to further the diversity and inclusion agenda, including the city of Athens.
  • Supervise the Director of the Center for Multicultural Programs, Assistant Director of Diversity Initiatives, and assigned graduate assistants.
  • Provide direct assistance to the VP for Diversity & Inclusion in timely response to public and staff concerns.
  • Support other university-wide DEI initiatives as assigned by the Vice President for Diversity & Inclusion.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities as appropriate for the role of Executive Director of IE.
  • Represent the Vice President for Diversity & Inclusion when they are not available.



2. Diverse Students Recruitment, Retention and Success:

  • Partner with the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Success to provide expertise about strategies, programs, and interventions for diverse populations to increase student success and close equity and achievement gaps.
  • Assist Enrollment Management and Undergraduate Admissions with the development of the access and diversity recruitment plan to improve opportunities for underrepresented student populations, ideas for staff training, and diverse staff recruitment and hiring.
  • Partner with the Division of Student Affairs on recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
  • Collaborate with office of Institutional Effectiveness & Analytics (IEA) and other campus programs on data gathering efforts to develop statistics for the university that are accurate, relevant, and measure the efficacy of initiatives, programs and services offered with regards to diverse recruitment and student success.
  • Coordinate response to campus climate with the office of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance and Division of Student Affairs and lead the response to reports of bias and insensitivity on campus.
  • Keep up-to-dated on diversity, equity, and inclusion trends and best practices, and serve as a resource to the campus community on DEI policies and practices.

3. Support of Division-wide Initiatives:

  • Work in collaboration with University Communications and Marketing and D&I staff to manage all D&I marketing and communications efforts.
  • Partner with the Division of Student Affairs and University Communications and Marketing to advance The Make Respect Visible initiative, and other initiatives that promote the university’s commitment to achieving an inclusive and equitable community.
  • Oversee, track, and monitor progress of special projects, and action items for the Vice President of D&I.
  • Ensure accuracy and timely execution of programs and projects; and alignment of D&I activities within the Division’s strategy and OHIO’s vision of a transformative learning community.


This position supervises work of others, including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, training staff and overseeing their productivity. May offer recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments, but does not have responsibility for making these decisions.

 

The role requires extensive knowledge of current challenges and trends in the field of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience and substantial work in the field of DEI at the college level, in student affairs, academic affairs or both.

The individual must possess the ability to manage multiple, complex projects; experience working in a large unit/division; excellent interpersonal and team-building capabilities; ability to reach solutions in a collaborative manner; effective oral and written communication skills.

The position requires that the successful candidate be present on-campus to engage with students, faculty, and staff. This is NOT a remote work position. The successful candidate must have the willingness and ability to travel occasionally for events.
