Job Summary

Student Affairs Human Resources encourages applications for the Student Affairs HR Consultant! This position manages a portfolio in the Division of Student Affairs to be the point of contact on all HR matters. This position is a generalist HR position working independently to provide strategic advice and support as it relates to position management and compensation, job descriptions, organization development, recruiting, performance management and employee relations matters. This position is responsible for providing HR strategic support at the division level while working in alignment and partnering with our campus HR team. We are looking for continuous improvement in HR practices to provide consistency and efficiencies at the division level and this position will be asked to participate and provide improvement ideas along with implementation. This position will work collaboratively with the student affairs human resources team to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for customers and to promote a heightened sense of community in student affairs where employees feel valued individually and as a team member.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Recruitment and Selection
  • Responsible for management of all recruitment and selection processes for positions within student affairs including temporary appointments.
  • Provide guidance on the selection and recruitment process using CU, state, and departmental guidelines. Use creative strategies to boost recruitments for hard to fill positions including managing recruitment incentives, advising on recruitment sites, timing etc.
  • Provide interpretation of division, university, and state guidelines and policies related to recruitment and selection for hiring supervisors.
  • Design and implement recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Advise hiring supervisors and unit leaders on current standard processes in HR as it relates to hiring and selection along with ensuring the position number, funding, approving signatures, salary request, and posting information are appropriate and accurate.
  • Using university technology, such as HCM and Avature, work with CUHR recruitment team to post vacant positions in a timely manner.
Position Management
  • Advise unit leadership with maintaining and ensuring position descriptions are accurate, complete, and up to date.
  • Provide strategic guidance as it relates to organization structure and position descriptions to understand the units objectives and align people talent to these objectives.
  • Assist hiring authorities with completing edits and resolving questions with position descriptions.
  • Responsible for identifying vacant and converted positions for abolishment and make recommendations to supervisors and managers about standard processes for position management.
  • Train authorities managers on standard processes for creating and writing job descriptions and required routing for position descriptions through the Avature system.
Performance Management
  • Advise managers and directors on how to write effective goals to set clear expectations for their employees.
  • Assist managers and supervisors with ensuring performance plans, coaching sessions and evaluations are completed for all employees meeting Division and campus deadlines
  • Train departments on standard processes as it relates to performance management including setting goals, providing ongoing feedback and addressing concerns while working in the Cornerstone platform to complete all required tasks and performance planning creation.
Employee Relations
  • Advise managers and supervisors with employees grievances/ dispute resolutions and progressive discipline processes in the Division by partnering with campus HR employee relations.
  • Advise managers and supervisors in dealing with employees who are not meeting performance or behavior expectations.
  • Advise managers on standard processes to support and develop employees to ensure optimal performance.
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Provide training to supervisors when needed for Division wide initiatives.
  • Participate on committees as appropriate.
What You Should Know

  • This will be a hybrid position with 2-3 days in the office each week.
What We Can Offer
The salary for this position is $56,000. Onboarding assistance is available within Student Affairs division guidelines.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 1 year of experience in human resources.
What You Will Need
  • Excellent organizational skills and written and oral communication.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage details, work efficiently, multi-task and meet deadlines.
What We Would Like You to Have
  • PHR, SHRM-CP or SPHR certification.
  • The ability to work as part of a team, and to be flexible and proactive with problem solving, as well as strong customer service attributes are essential for this position.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience with training and development.
  • Experience providing strategic HR support to complex organizations with staff positions from front line services employees to high level administrative roles.
