Job Description

The Alumni Engagement Manager creates capacity for increased alumni engagement and volunteer programming within Advancement | Foundation and collaborates to support overall engagement efforts.

The Alumni Engagement Manager drives the development and growth of the Lumberjack alumni network by creating opportunities for career and social networking, primarily through event management and volunteer coordination. This position also supports the development and outreach of NAU Near You, the regional and affinity-based alumni chapter program that empowers alumni to access the Lumberjack network where they live and work. Alumni chapters and identity-based affinity groups are led by alumni volunteers and are created to support a Lumberjack's life-long relationship to NAU through in-person/virtual social events, networking activities, giving initiatives, and meaningful volunteer and ambassador opportunities.

The Alumni Engagement Manager is also responsible for collaborating with other members of the Advancement | Foundation team to manage and support division event-planning.

Additionally, this position works closely with the Director and Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement to collaborate on the long-term growth strategy of NAU Near You as a program to support mutually beneficial relationships that drive student and alumni success. The position reports to the Assistant Director, Chapters and Volunteer Outreach.

Chapter and Volunteer Program Support and Event Management - 50%
  • Work closely with Director, Assistant Director, and other Alumni Engagement staff to coordinate NAU Near You, an alumni chapter program connecting alumni within key geographic areas and with shared areas of interest and/or identities. Responsible for assisting Assistant Director with program assessment, design, implementation, and annual evaluation.
  • Responsible for planning and coordinating virtual and in-person chapter and volunteer engagement, working occasionally with University Events to plan and execute chapter events and activities.
  • Maintaining chapter guidebook and similar written materials outlining operations, structure, and standards for the NAU Near You alumni chapter program.
  • Identifies and develops partnerships with campus stakeholders to facilitate engagement on their behalf and to create continuity of alumni volunteer opportunities across campus that can be accessed both in-person and virtually.Provide thorough, timely, and professional correspondence with all partners during planning for, and in follow-up to, all chapter activities.
  • Assists with ongoing alumni volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and training.
  • Assists the Assistant Director with annual volunteer training and recognition events that educates and supports a volunteer's ambassadorship of NAU and highlights the impact alumni volunteer have on student success, fundraising efforts, and alumni programming.
  • Collaborates with communications team with creating brandcompliant print and digital communications, including invitations, emails, and flyers.
  • Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization as well as state and federal regulations to ensure efficient operation of the program/project.
  • Applies subject matter expertise within constituent engagement.
  • Applies baseline planning, organizing, coordinating, and facilitating skills; demonstrates working knowledge of routine work applications.
  • Focus is on day-to-day operations and continuity of program; identifies and resolves issues that may not be readily apparent.

Division Support - 25%
  • Work closely with Assistant Director and other Advancement | Foundation staff to coordinate virtual and in-person division events, including donor events and alumni reunions.
  • Assists with NAU Alumni Association Board relations.
  • Works with Advancement | Foundation (A|F) colleagues and campus partners to identify additional opportunities and initiatives in need of alumni volunteer support.

Data Coordination and Budget Support - 15%
  • Develops, implements, and maintains recordkeeping systems and procedures; gathers data, compiles information, and prepares reports.
  • Manage data for quarterly and annual reports.
  • Reconciles event data.
  • Monitors budget expenditures and reconciles monthly purchasing card transactions.

Alumni Engagement and A|F Team member - 10%
  • Collaborates with Advancement | Foundation colleagues to highlight notable alumni achievements, university initiatives, alumni resources, and to support affinity group engagement through chapter programming that is executed in-person and virtually.
  • Supports overall alumni and donor stewardship efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, AND
  • 1-2 years of project management experience, AND
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience planning and executing high impact events.
  • Experience stewarding volunteers and volunteer programs.
  • Experience working as a relationship manager or in a community engagement and/or outreach setting.
  • Experience working in a non-profit or public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of community engagement or non-profit fundraising.
  • Demonstrated skills in writing, producing, and delivering professional message on behalf of an organization.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $54,779. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program; 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Service Professionals are hired on a contract basis, renewable each 6 months according to terms of the Conditions of Professional Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
