Job Summary/Basic Function

The Division of Advancement is accepting applications to fill two Major Gift Officer positions within the Development Office. The Millersville Development Office is a part of University Advancement Services. Our main objective is to support students by increasing University revenue from outside resources.

The Major Gift Officer’s responsibilities include facilitating and securing major gift support for priority projects and endowments, as well as securing general annual support from assigned portfolio of major gift prospects. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Advancement, other responsibilities include identifying, cultivating, and soliciting high asset prospects for philanthropic support of the University; working with other development staff, University administrators, faculty, key volunteers, and other staff in securing major gifts; working within budget regarding annual expenditures on assigned projects.

Annual Salary: $69,716.00 – $80,000.00, plus comprehensive benefits starting on the first day of employment, including:
  • Health insurance – Low bi-weekly premium, with coverage starting on the first day of employment for employee and all dependents.
  • Dental insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents with coverage starting on the first day of employment.
  • Vision insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents with coverage starting on the first day of employment.
  • Group life insurance – Equal to annual salary (up to $50,000) at no cost to the employee.
  • Voluntary Group Life and Accident Insurance – Available for purchase at low rates for additional employee coverage as well as coverage for spouse and children.
  • Long Term Disability Insurance – Available for purchase at low rates with either a 90 or 180-day waiting period.
  • Retirement – 2 plans to choose from.
  • Tuition waiver – For employee, spouse, and dependents.
  • Personal leave – Up to 6 days per year.
  • Vacation leave – Up to 10.4 days accrued per year for first year, increases to 15.6 days per year after 1 year.
  • Sick leave – Up to 15.6 days accrued per year, including up to 5 days per year that can be taken to care for a family member.
  • Holiday leave – 12 days per calendar year.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and three years’ experience in development or fundraising or equivalent education and experience to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • organize resources.
    • manage relationships.
    • assess and utilize demographic and/or financial data.
    • design and prepare statistical and outcome reports.
    • establish priorities.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years of direct major gift fundraising experience in higher education.
  • Digital Communication Skills.
  • Knowledge of:
    • fundraising databases.
    • federal, state and/or community funding sources and mechanisms.
