Mission or Goal of Unit

The mission of VCU, VCU Health, and the Child Development Clinic (CDC) is to improve the lives of children with developmental disabilities and their families through clinical care, research, education and public awareness. The CDC is currently one of the only developmental pediatrics practices in the Richmond area and beyond for children.

Chief Purpose of this position

As a key team member of VCU’s Child Development Clinic (CDC), one of a network of Virginia Department of Health (VDH) grant-funded interdisciplinary team clinics across the state, the psychologist will be responsible for providing diagnosis, resources, and limited case management to children with developmental disabilities and their families in the specialty area of developmental pediatrics. The psychologist will work with children who need evaluation for autism, developmental delays, and other conditions. The psychologist on the integrated team serves a critical role in providing information to clarify complex diagnoses within this subspecialty clinic.

Position Responsibilities

Teaching: Teaching and supervision of trainees from psychology, social work, psychiatry and medicine.

Scholarship: Reasonable scholarly activities, such as program evaluation, research, publications, presentations at national meetings and participation in appropriate academic organizations, are preferred.

Service: Serve on SOM committees and committees within the health system and Children’s Hospital of Richmond to enhance and promote the service needs and policy making functions of the university and hospital

Clinical: Provide diagnostic assessments and psychotherapy to children, adolescents and families in an outpatient setting and provide consultation/liaison services as needed. Clinical work includes individual, family and group therapy experience and clinical specialties (e.g., evidence-based practices, developmental disabilities/autism spectrum).

Research: if applicable

Other: Responsible for administrative duties relevant to specialty clinics as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • Virginia Licensed Clinical Psychologist.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a team member at VCU.
  • Clinical training and experience in specialty areas of treatment and assessment (e.g., Autism Spectrum, Intellectual Disabilities, Trauma Based Care, CBT ).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Research or publications.
  • Program development and evaluation experience.
  • Experience as a clinical supervisor or teacher.
