Job Description:

Empire State University invites applications for an Associate Provost of Student Success. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join a newly reorganized academic leadership team poised to embrace the energy of a new president, new strategic plan, and pending ascendance to university status to advance SUNY Empire's mission and vision of being a leader in accessible, flexible, and leaner centered education in New York State, nationally, and internationally.

This is a critical leadership position responsible for oversight of the university's student success and retention initiatives. Over the past several years, this team has embraced a data-informed, continuous improvement culture to systematically and collaboratively advance support for students, which has resulted in measurable gains in student retention. The successful candidate will work with stakeholders within Student Success and across the institution to continue to improve support and services aimed at strengthening the student experience and improving retention. The AP of Student Success oversees the office of student success, academic support, student engagement, opportunity programs, University student services, health and wellness, and accessibility services. 

The AP of Student Success will be student centered, strategic, collaborative, and data informed. They will have the organizational and interpersonal skills necessary to lead a diverse team of professionals across the State of New York.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development, implementation, and ongoing assessment of the institutional student success strategy related to retention, completion, and the elimination of equity gaps;
  • Providing strategic leadership for improving the student experience, including student health, wellness, basic needs, and engagement;
  • Strengthening student conduct and judicial affairs policies, processes, and enforcement;
  • Developing a career services strategy that provides maximum support for working leaners and career changes;
  • Building and sustaining a constructive and collaborative relationship with student government.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited U.S. Institution or comparable non-U.S. institution;
  • 5 or more years of progressive leadership experience in an area of student success in higher education;
  • Experience with implementing data informed academic support, student retention, DEI, mental health, and/or basis needs strategies;
  • Evidence of an ability to work effectively, engage, and develop rapport with individuals of diverse backgrounds;
  • Excellent communication, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree from an accredited U.S. Institution or comparable non-U.S. university;
  • Proficiency with student grievance and judicial proceedings;
  • Successful experience developing programming to promote virtual student engagement;
  • Demonstrated understanding of online open access and/or working learner institutions;
  • Experience with division or department budgeting and planning.

Special Information:

  • This position requires a physical presence in Saratoga Springs, NY;
  • Occasional travel to SUNY Empire locations and events may be required;
  • VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
