Visiting Assistant Professor, Art and Design

Position Details

The Department of Art and Design within the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa invites applications for a one-year full-time appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor of Art and Design to begin August 2023.

The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area. This position requires the ability to teach widely across the field of studio art and design. The department is seeking applicants with an interdisciplinary mindset, who display expertise in both traditional and digital art methods as they pertain to the theory and practice of contemporary art. Special consideration will be given to applicants that can contribute to multiple areas (2D/3D/4D). This commitment to combining technologies old and new is extremely important to the future vision of the department's goals and growth.

The department seeks to hire an active and engaged faculty member who combines disciplinary expertise with excellence in teaching. Candidates should have an active record in the profession that demonstrates scholarly and professional activities that make a significant contribution and reflect a high standard of excellence in teaching, research, and pedagogy. The successful candidate will join a department of thirteen full-time faculty members and five full-time instructional staff committed to excellence in teaching and fostering a strong research culture where traditional and emerging art and design processes and technologies are used across the disciplines in a diverse and collaborative environment.

Required Qualifications: Master of Fine Arts in Art. Teaching experience at the college or university level and proficiency in current industry software applications. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
