Job Description

The Biology Department of Notre Dame of Maryland University in the School of Arts, Sciences, and Business seeks to hire broadly trained biologists for two full-time, tenure-track or tenured positions at the assistant or associate professor level, beginning August 2023. Rank and tenure status at time of appointment will depend on qualifications.

Teaching responsibilities for one position will include Human Anatomy and Physiology for undergraduate students in the Biology, Radiological Sciences, Nursing, and Health Science majors.

The second position requires a neurobiologist or physiologist. Teaching responsibilities will be for upper-level electives for biology majors on topics in animal physiology and neurobiology as well as introductory biology labs.

In both cases, additional courses for a general education audience, or upper-level electives in the candidate’s area of expertise may be offered. The Department seeks to welcome a colleague who values working in a liberal arts and sciences environment. Candidates should also have interest in undergraduate research and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning. Faculty are expected to be deeply involved in the life of the University and committed to the University’s mission. Potential hires will also advise students, participate in major University events, pursue scholarship, and be open to teaching evenings and online. Service to both the University and the Department is required. The qualified candidate may be appointed as department chair.

NDMU prides itself on its inclusive community and is committed to building an administration, faculty, and staff that reflects the rich diversity of its student body. We particularly welcome applications from members of those groups who have traditionally been underrepresented in American academia.

Requirements

These positions require a Ph.D. in a relevant biological discipline, a commitment to excellent teaching, and previous teaching experience at the college level.

Candidates should provide (1) a curriculum vitae, (2) a statement of teaching philosophy, (3) a research scholarship statement, (4) a statement regarding the applicant’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and (5) names and contact information of three references. All materials must be submitted through the online application portal. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
