Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree is required, with an advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of fundraising experience, preferably in higher education or experience in financial services, a legal profession or another relatable career field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in working with academic leaders, university administrators and volunteer boards.
  • Willingness and ability to carry out the direction of the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement.
  • Demonstrated willingness to travel and work nights and weekends.
License/Certification Required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Gift Planning and Real Estate Management oversees The Office of Gift Planning and Real Estate Management within the Division of University Advancement and provides direction and strategy for estate and bequest gifts. This position serves on the leadership team for the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, works closely with the division’s Advancement Services team, the Appalachian State University Foundation support staff, and the university’s Office of General Counsel.

Responsibilities include:
  • Managing an active portfolio of major gift planned giving prospects and donors, and traveling regularly to meet with and solicit prospects and stewarding current planned giving donors.
  • Collaborating with development officers on planned giving cultivation, solicitation and stewardship will be key for this position.
  • Managing real estate matters for Appalachian State University Foundation, Inc.
  • Supervisory duties: Completing work plans and performance evaluations for direct reports and approving evaluations for the Office of Gift Planning. Salary increases and position re-classifications are approved by the position, pending final approval from the Vice Chancellor. Position approves time sheets and expenditures from Foundation funds as a part of the leave reporting and expense reimbursement request processes.
