- High School/ GED
- Ability to work under stress and use sound judgment in emergencies.
- Ability to be assertive and calm in soliciting information from distressed callers.

- Ability to quickly assimilate information and implement an appropriate course of action.
- Ability to verbally communicate clearly and concisely to ensure on-the-job safety.
- Knowledge of computers and related equipment, hardware and software for researching, retrieving, and maintaining a variety of informational and tracking databases.
- Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
- Complete a Personal History Background Packet.
- Preferred: Associate Degree or Higher
- Knowledge of police emergency response practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of TCIC / NCIC and TLETS / NLETS rules, regulations, and requirements.
- Knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for responding to and dispatching emergency services utilizing computer aided dispatch system.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures, Police Department General Orders, and Communications’ Standard Operating Procedures.
- Knowledge of emergency medical dispatching.
- Telecommunicator License by the State of Texas.
The Dispatcher assists the university community and first responders in requests for emergency and non-emergency service. A dispatcher receives requests for assistance through 911 or non-emergency phone lines, while monitoring alarms and radio traffic. The dispatcher is responsible to log accurate information into computer aided dispatch and to provide pre-arrival instruction(s) to caller and to provide accurate information to patrol officers. The dispatcher is responsible to maintain and provide accurate information from TLETS system.
Job Duties
- Answer 911 and non-emergency phone calls from the public to rapidly assimilate information to determine which resource (police, fire, EMS ) is needed. Operate a Computer Aided Dispatch ( CAD ) system, an NCIC / TCIC console, and an interoperable radio console.
- Monitor Texas State intrusion and fire alarms via SureGuard, Insight, and Fireworks.
- Monitor video surveillance system. Monitor CS Gold access system.
- Receive calls from external alarm monitoring companies. Monitor RAVE Guardian system for emergency notifications.
- Monitor after hours CSA email. Monitors, enters, maintains, updates and researches information into TCIC / NCIC (Texas Criminal Information Center and National Criminal Information Center) and TLETS / NLETS (Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System/National Law Enforcement Telecommunication System) databases.
- Research and respond to inquiries from other law enforcement agencies and departments. Perform CSA duties as required by Clery Act.
