The College of Education at Butler University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track lecturer position with an expected start date of August 2022. The successful candidate will have experience and expertise in middle-secondary education with background in any content area and particular ability to provide writing instruction to first year undergraduate students in Butler University’s First Year Seminar , which is a topic-driven discussion course designed to introduce students to college writing. Candidates will have demonstrated commitment to interrupting and eliminating inequitable outcomes, to removing barriers, and to creating inclusive conditions for individuals and communities, regardless of any predictive identities. Candidates for the position should demonstrate alignment with the COE Shared Commitments and be able to support learners from a variety of backgrounds with strong, student-centered and inclusive instructional methods. Candidates will also demonstrate commitment to field-based practicum experiences.

Minimum requirements: Master’s degree in education or related field by contract start date; experience and excellence in teaching in educational settings, including at the middle or high school; knowledge and skill of writing instruction and evidence of capacity to support development of college level writing competencies; evidence of sustained commitment and action towards diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational settings; and experience working with students from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds

Preferred requirements: Expertise and interest in developing and teaching First Year Seminar courses focused on identity, race, equity, & education, and/or immigrant and refugee experiences and communities.

We are particularly interested in applicants from identity groups currently underrepresented in the corps of Indiana K-12 teachers.

Expectations: Teaching 12 credit hours of courses each semester with the majority of those hours in the University Core and participation in service to the College and the University, including serving as an academic advisor to undergraduate students.
