POSITION SUMMARY:
The Faculty Training and Professional Development Specialist orchestrates and continuously improves the technical, operational, and academic content comprehensive centralized faculty training and professional development activities. This position works closely with the online academic leadership within the educational system, online faculty, outside subject matter experts, human resources, eLearning Success, eLearning Resources, assessment, and web strategies to ensure that the faculty training and professional development content aligns and supports the mission, values, and priorities of the educational system, with the ultimate goal to improve the student learning environment and experience.

The candidate effectively utilizes technology, research findings, best practices, and adaptive approaches to coordinate development of faculty on-boarding and certification, ongoing faculty training and professional development, and position training. The candidate also monitors and analyzes faculty initiatives to continuously assess and address the training and development needs of faculty.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Under direction and supervision of the Faculty/Course Manager for the particular educational system, the Faculty Training and Professional Development Specialist:
  • Facilitates the efforts of online academic leadership to define, implement, and measure overall online faculty training and professional development plans for the educational system.
  • Facilitates the efforts of online faculty and/or outside subject matter experts to develop appropriate on-boarding and certification, faculty training and professional development, and position training modules.
  • Ensures inclusion of learning outcomes, pre/post assessments, and active learning to establish faculty performance criteria and evaluation in all faculty training and professional development modules.
  • Delivers learning-centered instruction by establishing a training and development environments conducive to learning and faculty involvement.
  • Deploys adaptive approaches to faculty training and professional development to best match the learning outcomes with the faculty's prior knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Matches the faculty training and professional development modules to the technology, modality, and pedagogy best suited for just-in-time and situation appropriate deployment to the target faculty audience.
  • Delivers faculty training and professional development modules as appropriate and approved by online academic leadership for the educational system.
  • Works with other Faculty Training and Professional Development Specialists to drive consistent development efforts that leverage efficiencies in processes, technologies, and deployment.
  • Promotes faculty success by exhibiting a passion for successful, professional, and respectful training and development of online faculty.
  • Manages the online faculty training and professional development environment through the implementation of appropriate schedules/calendars, information systems, and communication systems, with an emphasis on accurate record keeping, submitting and generating reports on time, and complying with appropriate faculty training and development policies as defined by the educational system.
  • Partners with online academic leadership, online faculty, and human resources to create and manage the periodic and annual evaluation process of online full-time and adjunct faculty.
  • Conducts appropriate surveys and needs assessments.
  • Attends regular periodic departmental meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in higher education, instruction, instructional design/development, or a closely related field.
  • Two or more years of industry-related or professionally-related experience leading faculty training and/or professional development initiatives.
  • Two or more years of teaching experience, predominantly in the online modality.
  • Excellent oral communication, writing, editing, and proofing skills.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and appropriate authoring/media software.
  • Proficiency in development and/or instruction within a learning management system.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with diverse populations.
  • Customer service orientation, with high degree of professionalism.
  • Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem solving skills.
  • Superior change management and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects under time constraints and successfully meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a member of a department team and to work collaboratively with other diverse groups.
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities, and to work under pressure.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion when handling highly sensitive and confidential issues.
