Position Summary
The Assistant Research Scientist position is primarily an entry-level faculty position analogous to the Assistant Professor rank. A minimum number of years in a lower rank are not required. Individuals eligible for appointment to this rank should possess strong potential for creative and productive research. In addition, they should show clear potential for obtaining independent research grants or contracts on which they would serve as coprincipal or principal investigators.

Minimum Qualifications
Should possess a PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent professional degree in a field related to biological sciences.
Additional Requirements
- No less than 4 years of postdoctoral or industry-related experience.
- A track record of significant scientific contributions with publications in peer-reviewed journals and intellectual property protection is required.
- Knowledge and skills in molecular biology, cell biology, and drug development are required.
- Skills in animal studies and small animal imaging are required.
- Expertise in studying cancer therapeutics and cancer chemoprevention is preferred.
- Teaching capabilities in biological sciences is preferred.
- Outstanding communication skills are necessary, including the ability to develop, implement, and clearly communicate drug discovery strategies.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment are expected.

Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
- Maintain high ethics and productivity in the PBS department in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Georgia.
- Help supervise the postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students in the College of Pharmacy.
- Involved in the teaching of the Pharm D as well as BS and graduate courses.
- Develop scientific leadership, especially in the area of cancer drug development.
- Develop an independent grant funding to support the research efforts of the College of Pharmacy.
- Lead independent research projects.
- Serve as lab supervisor and be fully accountable for the lab safety, chemical management, hazardous waste management, and maintenance of the UGA Chematix and perform appropriate action to achieve goal of EPA set by the UGA ethical policies.
- Maintenance of all lab equipment’s on a regular basis, writing of the SOP for the instrument operation, etc.
- Participate and present the research findings among and the scientific community.
- Write scientific articles for publication in the peer-reviewed journals.
- Present, discuss and submit the progress report of the lab to the PI.
- This position requires strong oral and written communication skills.
