ROLE of the POSITION

The Associate Vice President of Advocacy, Communications, and Donor Relations (AVP) is an integral member of the philanthropy and alumni engagement (PAE) leadership team, overseeing and/or advising internal and university partners departments on communications efforts to ensure they further the mission and goals of the university as they pertain to alumni engagement and philanthropic support. The AVP analyzes units’ needs, incorporates primary and secondary market research, recommends best practices/approaches, and collaboratively executes the plan.

The primary functions of this role include the implementation and management of the most effective and efficient means for establishing and maintaining communications between the university and its varied constituents including working with the Government Affairs office to develop and implement strategies for engaging alumni in advocating for the University. Oversee advertising, multi-channel strategy and communications for a global constituency of 140,000+ alumni and donors and management of donor relations and stewardship efforts through management of cross-functional teams.

The AVP is responsible for leading the development of and supervision of all communications work for the Division (i.e., website, newsletters, emails, billboards, advertising, social media, direct mail, collateral materials, etc.) and works in conjunction with the UNLV Integrated Marketing and Public Relations department, planning and executing overall communications strategies and plans, and supervising staff involved in any communications work.

The AVP will work closely with the UNLV Alumni Association (separate 501c3) to ensure that communications needs are being met and to look for ways to improve and enhance alumni communications with a focus on effective marketing and aligning philanthropic appeals/messages. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for working in tandem with the Annual Giving unit on multi-channel efforts; which includes audience segmentation, tailored messages for direct mail, email, and general communications.

The AVP is responsible for staying aware of current and emerging communications trends to and selectively matching these into innovative and effective marketing communications programs and strategies. The incumbent will execute communication strategies that inform and engage current and potential donors (e.g. parents, staff, corporations, small business) and alumni while accurately reflecting the contributions and impact to the programs and people who benefit from UNLV philanthropic efforts.

It is expected that the Associate Vice President of Advocacy, Communications and Donor Relations attends campus events, stewardship events and occasionally attends community events as a representative of the division of PAE.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and a minimum of seven years of experience in developing administrative procedures for several complex departments/programs, including a minimum of five years supervisory experience with at least three years of management experience.

Evidence of management and leadership, as well as a progressive level of responsibility. Experience detailing ability to build and lead teams within units as well as across an institution to achieve/exceed annual strategic goals and objectives. Evidence of experience working in and with a culturally diverse community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred experience in higher education communication which may include marketing, advertising, donor relations, public relations or similar areas. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

SALARY RANGE

The salary range for Associate Vice President of Advocacy, Communications and Donor Relations is $110,000-$120,000. Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions.
