Job Description

We are seeking qualified candidates for two exciting positions in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships Office!

1) The Financial Aid Processing Coordinator – Scholarships and State Awards oversees complex financial aid programs and ensures compliance in each program. This position analyzes, processes, awards, and revises financial aid packages for students including all financial aid programs administered by UMKC. Additionally, this position oversees and manages state award processing, including some external scholarships. The coordinator must have excellent process-improvement and documentation skills and have the ability to work effectively as part of a team to meet the needs of a diverse student population.

2) The Financial Aid Processing Coordinator – Outside Scholarships oversees complex financial aid programs and ensures compliance in each program. This position analyzes, processes, awards, and revises financial aid packages for students including all financial aid programs administered by UMKC. Additionally, this position processes all external scholarships. The coordinator must have excellent process-improvement and documentation skills and have the ability to work effectively as part of a team to meet the needs of a diverse student population.

These are primarily an in-person job, but the combination of a hybrid schedule of in-person and remote work is negotiable after a 6-month training period.

Duties and Responsibilites for both roles include but are not limited to:
  • Awards and administers federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs on behalf of a specific group of student applicants through the financial aid packaging process. Determines amount of aid based on eligibility criteria for each award program, need of students, and funds available.
  • Requests, collects, and reviews financial aid documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal and state financial aid policies to determine student’s actual needs and financial aid awards.
  • Provides accurate and responsive advising throughout the financial aid process to prospective, new, and current students and their families to ensure exceptional customer service to a diverse community of students.
  • Provides students with counseling on available financial aid based upon changes to their academic program, enrollment, and eligibility criteria.
  • Maintains and reviews student award packages for compliance and prevention of overawards. Revises student financial aid packages as needed when additional aid awards are posted.
  • Monitors compliance of regulatory guidelines and new regulations as appropriate.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records as required for completion of internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Manages the state awards process by depositing funds into appropriate accounts, running state awarding processes, reconciling funds, and returning excess funds. (specific to the Scholarships and State Awards role)
  • Manages the outside scholarship process by depositing funds into appropriate accounts, entering awards on student’s account, reconciling funds disbursed, and returning excess funds to donors. (specific to the Outside Scholarships role)
  • Serves as a member of the Scholarships Processing Team, handling various assigned reports and processes around awarding and administering scholarships.
  • Contributes to broad-based management of Financial Aid Office by providing input to office policy and procedure decisions.
  • Exercises great attention to detail when completing assignments.
  • Maintains student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations.
  • Completes assigned duties with a high degree of accuracy to ensure compliance while experiencing multiple interruptions.
  • Prepares presentations on policy, regulatory, and procedural updates for staff and assists in training on updates and new processes.
  • Seeks opportunities to gain knowledge and implement more effective and efficient processes.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Associate Director.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of federal financial aid regulations preferred. Experience in handling multiple tasks and a customer service orientation with a commitment to higher education and working with students a plus. NASFAA Credentialing and experience with institutional and outside scholarship processes is a plus.

Full-time, benefit eligible

Salary

$17.43 - $19.60/hr commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity
