Scope of Job:
To provide strategic clinical leadership directing the overall operations for the nursing team and function at UT Health RGV health system. Responsibilities include all aspects of the patient experience, patient care, clinical operations, education, customer service, quality outcome management, safety, and regulatory compliance. The Director of Nursing will work in partnership with Medical Directors and the Chief Medical Officer to develop and maintain collegial and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders across the institution to positively impact operations and patient care outcomes.

Description of Duties:
  • Supervises patient care operations for nursing teams including issues related to patient flow, scheduling, patient experience, quality, safety, and the coordination of clinical research with operations.
  • Develops, implements, and directs processes and systems to ensure effective, optimal, and efficient operations at clinical sites in collaboration with the Manager, Medical Director and providers.
  • Anticipates operational/service barriers; develops strategies to minimize obstacles.
  • Partners with Revenue Cycle to ensure efficient and timely new patient access and existing patient experience.
  • Evolves the nursing team and nursing structure to match our health system’s growing healthcare offerings and needs.
  • Ensures that operational practices are improved through the development, implementation, and evaluation of continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Complies with institutional, divisional, and unit-based policies and procedures and external regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes quality benchmarks and implements plans to promote the professional development of nursing staff.
  • Effectively articulates the relationship between strategic goals for service quality, clinical outcomes and financial performance.
  • Identifies opportunities to utilize data about performance measures and patient outcomes in conjunction with leaders at the clinical sites on target areas for priority attention.
  • Ensures nursing staffing resources are adequate to support the provision of safe patient care while maintaining fiscal accountability.
  • Participates in strategic planning and marketing efforts and service as a member of the institutional nursing leadership team.
  • Prepares and presents presentations and reports as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited university.

Preferred Education:
None.

Licenses/Certifications:
Current State of Texas Nursing license (RN/APRN).

Required Experience:
Eight (8) years of clinical experience, including two (2) years in a highly responsible management position over direct patient care activities.

Preferred Experience:
None.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/Healthcare Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Other:
Ability to articulate the goals, philosophy and methods of service quality management. Excellent written and oral communication skills and analytical skills.
