Position Overview:

Provides specialized, in-depth services to Library patrons by responding to inquiries and providing requested library information resources utilizing a variety of electronic and print resources. Typically performs a variety of complex operations or services related to a collection, branch library, or technical area. This position interacts with fellow Library employees, other employees on campus, faculty, and students, may hire, train, and supervise full and part-time staff and student library assistants, and may interact with colleagues of other libraries statewide or with library vendors. May help to develop and effective and efficient staff by training, supervising, assigning work, and reviewing the work of full and part time employees and student workers.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Full-time position working under the supervision of the Director of Archives & Special Collections, this position provides professional expertise in the services and projects of the Archives and Special Collections department. Works collaboratively within the department to determine appropriate approaches to preparing collections for use. Working closely with a variety of team members will participate in the daily operations of media reformatting projects, including file creation and management, troubleshooting, and coordination of tasks, and will properly handle fragile and rare materials during digitization, using archival preservation standards and scanning techniques. Assists with the preservation and provision of access to media held in the Archives & Special Collections including photographs, video, audio, micrographics and paper. Contributes to all steps in the production workflow process, including materials selection, preparation, media digitization, media manipulation, quality assurance, metadata creation, and preparation of files for online access and repository preservation. Assists with project documentation status reporting and progress tracking. Prepares media for exhibition, publication, and public relations purposes. Responds to historical research and media inquiries from patrons and staff. Completes special projects as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience Required:

Requires a university degree in field plus 3+ years of relevant experience in the chosen field or 7+ years of equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred :

Two years supervisory experience. Experience working in academic libraries.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of Windows-based computer applications and Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of Adobe products particularly Adobe Photoshop. Must meet physical demands of position which include standing, lifting, reaching, and pushing book carts and working in a noisy environment during peak periods.
