Assistant Director, AMSTI - Athens

Job Duties:
The AMSTI Assistant Director is a professional staff member of the College of Education. Theprimary responsibility is assisting the director in the daily operation of the AMSTI-Athens site andserving as part-time specialist in supporting math and science instruction in AMSTI-Athensschools. This is a 12-month position.
In addition to adhering to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Employee Handbook, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the State Board of Education, duties will include but are not limited to:
DUTIES:

  • Spend a portion of their time in schools performing the duties of a specialists as determined by the AMSTI Director.
  • Assist the AMSTI Director in establishing Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) in schools with groups of teachers and principals.
  • Assist with the compilation and analysis of AMSTI school data and applying data reports to support Implementation and sustainability plans for AMSTI school.
  • Assist the AMSTI Director in coordinating the operation of the AMSTI site, including supervision of its staff, in accordance with AMSTI and Athens State University policies.
  • Complete and submit monthly site reports to the State Department of Education.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of professional development for the entire staff.
  • Assist with maintaining records of the following:


o Schools and teachers participating in various AMSTI components; i.e. Summer Institutes, compressed training, and other professional development.o Evaluations of Summer Institutes, compressed training and other professional development activities.o Other documentation required by SDE, Athens State University, and external grants.
  • Assist the AMSTI Director in coordinating Summer Institutes that includes instructional resource components as identified by AMSTI for AMSTI schools.
  • Assist the SDE with developing a cadre of trainers to support training programs.
  • Assist the AMSTI Director in securing trainers including completing paperwork for Summer Institutes, compressed training and other professional development.
  • Work closely with AMSTI SDE representatives to ensure AMSTI is being correctly implemented at the site. The SDE is the final authority regarding policies and operations of AMSTI sites.
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with other AMSTI sites and provide assistance, as needed.
  • Assist in the recruitment of new AMSTI schools.
  • Assist in designing activities to develop teacher leaders.
  • Perform other duties assigned by AMSTI Director and/or SDE.
  • Participate in professional development activities and staff meetings as required by the SDE.
  • Assume any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the College of Education Dean, AMSTI Director, or Regional In-service Director.


Required Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Elementary Education and/or Secondary Education required from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Experience as an AMSTI Specialists required.
  • Broad and extensive educational work experience to include a minimum of five years teaching in Alabama Public Schools.
  • Knowledge of PC systems and a variety of software.
  • Skill to effectively write and deliver oral presentations and respond to questions from a wide variety of on and off campus groups and individuals.
  • Ability to bring creative and innovative solutions to problems and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and service.
  • Valid Alabama Teachers Certification required,
  • Valid and current driver’s license required.
  • FBI/ABI fingerprinting background clear status required. *
  • Preference will be given to applicants with significant experience in teaching, and those who show evidence of professional involvement and scholarship, especially in the areas of Science and Mathematics.


Salary Schedule:
12-month position. Salary will be based on education and teaching experience according to the Athens State University-AMSTI salary schedule for Assistant Directors. Assistant Directors who are National Board Certified will be entitled to the additional amount paid by the state for such certification, as long as the certification remains in effect. Future employment is contingent upon AMSTI funding.
