Job Summary

The Embark startup creation team with CU Boulder's Venture Partners group are now encouraging applications for an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) to join our team!

Embark at CU Boulder is seeking up to five (5) motivated Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIRs) to create new startups that commercialize CU Boulder's lab innovations. We are looking for passionate individuals to launch new startups from over 50 of CU Boulder's highest potential technologies. EIR's will function as founders and CEO's of their startups, and are eligible to apply for grant funding and other startup resources toward their new ventures. Join our team and participate in the journey of bringing breakthrough innovations from the university to the world! Who We Are

Venture Partners is a key catalyst for innovation with a mission to facilitate the transfer of breakthrough inventions from the University to society through exciting, fast-paced, and multidisciplinary work. We bring together the domains of business, science, and law, working with university researchers and business partners to commercialize new products and form new startup companies. In support of this effort, we provide IP and licensing consultation, startup formation and support, early-stage funding, and more.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Build and launch a new startup.
  • Provide executive level leadership to manage your startup.
  • Collaborate with university researchers who developed the founding technology for your company.
  • Complete early startup benchmarks toward commercialization.
  • Assess product market fit and – where dictated – “pivot” to alternative strategies.
  • Complete all associated Venture Partners workshops and trainings.
  • Provide regular reports to Venture Partners leadership on startup progress and achievements.
  • Report EIR activity bi-weekly or as required by program turning points.
What You Should Know
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement . New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
  • Monday-Friday. Hybrid work schedule (in-person and remote); approximately 13 hours/week.
  • Appointment scheduled from June, 2023 to November, 2023.

  • Please note: select applicants will be invited to participate in an orientation program in April and May, during which time they will identify the CU Boulder technology around which they wish to form a company. Applicants will then present their startup plans to a panel of reviewers. Only applicants who complete the April and May orientation and present to the panel will be considered for the EIR positions.
What We Can Offer

This position will be paid $5,400 monthly.

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave .

What We Require
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • At least 5+ years of professional, job-related experience.

  • Sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural, racial, political, geographical, and other differences.

  • Experience leading, working in, or mentoring startups.
