The Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University is seeking a qualified lecturer to provide services to departmental faculty, staff, and students through excellent communication and organizational skills and promote the departmental mission to discover and communicate knowledge about animals and their products, including their role and impact on society and the environment.  The successful candidate will be expected to:

Develop and teach animal sciences subject content at the introductory, intermediate and/or upper levels. Specific course assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department, but the successful candidate will have a deep understanding of companion animal biology and will teach courses in this area; adapt teaching methods to the needs of diverse learners; and use existing and new technologies to deliver subject matter through both in-person and virtual formats.  The range of duties will include contact hours with students in class, recitation, and/or laboratories, and additional commitment to course preparation, student office hours, team meetings, grading, etc.

Provide leadership to the planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of the Departments global education programs; serve as a liaison with global education hosts, university participants (faculty, staff, and students), and college and university global education leaders; and explore and cultivate new partnerships and programs.

Serve as an academic advisor for Animal Sciences undergraduate students along with other Departmental personnel. In this capacity, it is expected that the successful candidate will become and remain knowledgeable in department, college, and university academic policies and procedures, program and degree requirements, and other related academic information for successful student degree completion. Opportunities will also be available for advising student organizations and guiding extracurricular programs.

 

Required Qualifications:

Master's Level Degree in animal sciences or related biological field.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to effectively function independently and as a member of a team; efficient and effective in managing multiple priorities and responsibilities; high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). Ability to work with and build relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds, including faculty, staff, and students and provide proactive communication. Knowledge of companion animal biology. Identifies with the mission and values of the department to discover and communicate knowledge about animals and their products, including their role and impact on society and the environment and develop students to become leaders and responsible world citizens with a knowledge base that includes an understanding of the economic, environmental, and social implications of animal production for food, fiber, recreation, and companionship.

 

Desired Qualifications:

Master's Level Degree in animal sciences or related biological field.

Experience in higher education setting/academic environment. Cross-cultural competence and cultural sensitivity; ability to provide effective guidance on policy, practice, and global education program changes to unit leadership; and demonstrated skills related to facilitating group activities, including travel.

 

Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience.

 

Additional Information:

60% - Develop and teach animal sciences subject content at the introductory, intermediate and/or upper levels; adapt teaching methods to the needs of diverse learners; and use existing and new technologies to deliver subject matter.

35% - Serve as a coordinator and liaison for global education programs, events, travels, and activities of the department; identify new partnerships and maintain relationships with existing partners; performs administrative tasks for the management and coordination of departmental global education programs; works cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students for the successful delivery of global education program. Must be available to attend meetings and events outside of regular working hours and participate in international travel.

5% - Performs other duties as assigned in support of the department’s teaching mission, including serving on committees, assisting with student functions, etc.
