The Opportunity

As a part of the Enterprise Marketing and Communications division, t he senior media planner/buyer plays a critical role in the oversight of paid media performance. The position provides thought leadership and strategic oversight of media planning, buying and implementation for the University and coordinates efforts with the Health System marketing team as needed.

Core Responsibilities:

· Lead media agency partners by ensuring paid media strategies, planning, budgets and buys align with the University and collaborates with the Health System on their media strategy and priorities.

· Oversee paid media performance and the timely and accurate reporting of performance metrics.

· Manage the strategic consideration, successful implementation and execution of opportunities, plans and buys.

· Review and approve internal school level advertising and sponsorship requests for the University.

Duties:

· Provide thought leadership that drives the overall media strategy with a keen focus on results.

· Manage media agency(s) to ensure plans perform as expected. Monitor media performance to ensure optimizations are ongoing and timely.

· Create media briefs to document goals, objectives, KPI’s, audiences, markets, timing, etc.

· Presents and or makes available all data and important media metrics to stakeholders; Oversees bi weekly and monthly media performance reports to track KPI performance.

· Collaborate with creative teams to strengthen strategic and creative impact of plans.

· Provide insights based on media industry trends and knowledge of digital and traditional platforms.

· Recommend new strategic and first-to-market opportunities. Champion innovative test and learn opportunities that optimize audience reach.

· Provide media planning/buying duties on opportunities not managed by media agencies.

· Coordinate backend processes such as pixeling and access to University’s accounts for media purchase needs.

· Manage media budgets and ensure purchased media is billed as approved.

· Ensure media plan specs and schedules are clearly communicated to project management and creative teams.

· Review sponsorship and ad request ensuring adherence to brand/policy guidelines.

· Recommend improvements to media planning and buying processes for streamlining and efficiency purposes.



Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree

· 7+ years of media planning/buying experience; including at least 3-years with concentrated digital planning experience

· Thorough knowledge of media strategy, planning and buying. Extensive knowledge of reach, frequency, frequency management and metrics ROI

· Proficient with marketing principles, including advertising, communication and branding

· Excellent writing, verbal and presentation communication skills

· Thorough knowledge of media research and ad serving tools that inform target audience profiles, behaviors and channel performance.

· Experienced with authoring media briefs and defining KPIs for campaign performance

· Development of POV’s

· Strong analytic skills and ability to relate results to business objectives

· Excellent time management and multi-tasking capabilities. Ability to work with tight deadlines and execute multiple projects simultaneously

· Sound project and budget management skills. Possess a proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and departments.

· Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Salary Range: $75,000 - $80,000
