Position Summary

The Department of Counseling and Human Development Services ( CHDS ) in the Mary Frances Early College of Education at the University of Georgia invites applications for an Assistant Research Scientist to serve as a Project Manager /Supervisor on several federally-funded training grants. This is not a tenure-track position.

The individual hired for this position will serve as Project Manager and assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in overseeing and implementing major objectives of externally-funded projects, including: 1) development and implementation of project-related infrastructure, objectives and goals; 2) provision of clinical and/or research supervision; 3) periodic teaching of health psychology-related courses; 4) training of graduate students; and 5) data analytic and management support of research conducted in the PI’s laboratory. Several programs that this individual will help to oversee are in the area of behavioral workforce development. These lines of research are currently funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration ( HRSA ) and Department of Education (DoE).

The Assistant Research Scientist will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, social work providers, physicians, pharmacists, counselors, etc. to deliver inter-professional integrated biopsychosocial health care services to underserved and underrepresented populations and communities.

The MFE COE is a comprehensive college with disciplines focused on teacher preparation, counseling and human development, communication sciences, human movement sciences, career development, student affairs, and educational administration and policy. We place significant emphasis on graduate education with approximately 40% of our students at the graduate level, making us the second largest college at UGA with respect to graduate education. The Mary Frances Early College of Education ( MFECOE ) consists of nine departments and approximately 220 faculty members.

The Department of Counseling and Human Development Services houses several mental and behavioral health service programs including a PhD Program in Counseling Psychology and two Master’s programs in School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling. The Assistant Research Scientist position will manage the training collaboration across the mental and behavioral health programs and community partnerships to ensure that students receive contemporary training across a variety of psychosocial and clinical diagnostic areas, including substance use, trauma, integrated care, Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementia-related disorders, depression/anxiety disorders, and other populations.

Earned doctorate in counseling psychology or a related field (e.g., psychology, social work, counseling, etc.) at the time of employment

  • training and supervision activities of project personnel/staff and participating student-trainees;
  • ensure project adherence to planned timelines and budgets;

  • ensure coordination and collaboration across community agencies;

plan and deliver high quality professional development and intervention services to community partners and K-12 in-service educators, etc.
