John V. Roach Honors College

The John V. Roach Honors College at Texas Christian University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice to join the College’s core interdisciplinary faculty beginning August 2023.

The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching honors students and will contribute to the College’s interdisciplinary undergraduate curriculum, in line with the Honors College mission of empowering, inspiring, and motivating highly motivated students to become global leaders. The successful candidate will be a first-rate teacher: a creative educator dedicated to the facilitation of high-impact practices, engaged student mentoring, and innovative, as well as inclusive, pedagogies. The candidate will possess a strong aptitude and passion for helping students learn to think generatively, critically, and imaginatively. This individual needs to be a collaborative and ambitious colleague; their work will enrich the College’s curriculum, contribute to student success and inclusivity, and elevate the national profile of the John V. Roach Honors College and TCU.

The candidate will teach both lower division (first and second year students) courses (Cultural Visions; HNRS), as well as upper division (third and fourth year students) interdisciplinary Colloquia (HCOL). The position includes some service responsibilities including curriculum/program development, as well as university, school and department committees. Research/creative activity is welcomed and supported; however, applicants will not be evaluated on the basis of their research, and there is no requirement of research productivity for re-appointment. This position is not a tenure-track position; contracts are renewable annually on basis of evaluation. Salary range is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

Required Education and Experience:
• Candidates must possess an earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree
• Candidates must have strong evidence of excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate level.
• Candidates must be able to demonstrate creativity in course development and pedagogy.
• Candidates must be capable of effectively teaching honors courses at the undergraduate level.
• Candidate must be able to demonstrate success in supporting an atmosphere of collegiality.

The John V. Roach Honors College is a high-impact community where the complexities of knowledge are enthusiastically explored. The college supports more than 1,200 highly motivated students in their quest for intellectual and personal growth through interdisciplinary teaching, learning and research. This culture of inquiry is enhanced by small class sizes and students residing together in the Honors-designated residence hall. In 1962, TCU launched the Honors Program to set the campus standard for learning, exploration and achievement. In 2009, Paul and Judy Andrews of Fort Worth endowed the new Roach Honors College paying tribute to their friend and mentor, John V. Roach, a longtime Fort Worth civic and business leader, former chairman of the TCU Board of Trustees and CEO of the Tandy Corporation.
