Assistant Director for Student Recruitment

Columbia Basin College ('CBC' or the 'College') seeks an Assistant Director for Student Recruitment who will represent CBC in outreach and recruitment efforts and through financial aid outreach in the K-12 system and the community. This position will promote CBC in general, as well as specific programs and promote awareness of financial aid for funding education. The Assistant Director will primarily work with the high schools and with high school students, their families and school staff to support application completion for federal and state financial aid. This incumbent will participate in classroom visitation, K-12 event engagement, community events and assist with administrative oversight. The position will work both in assigned high schools and on the CBC campus. This position reports to the Director for Student Recruitment.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead development and implementation of outreach planning for the K-12 system encompassing CBC program and affordability (including state and federal financial aid, scholarships, and financial literacy);
  • Manage 8 full-time Financial Aid Outreach positions to ensure they are performing the duties assigned;
  • Responsible for ensuring team is achieving work plan objectives;
  • Represent CBC by interpreting and communicating complex higher education and financial aid language in easy-to-understand language to prospective college students and their families;
  • Provide individual counsel and advice to students and/or parents in person, through email and over the phone, related to the full process of applying for, receiving and utilizing financial aid, scholarships and the admission process at CBC;
  • Develop and present inclusive and accessible information financial aid sessions for various in-person, hybrid, and virtual-only recruitment and outreach efforts;
  • Identify creative and innovative ways to reach students and families, with special attention to reaching historically underserved communities and first-generation college students;
  • Utilize data maintained by the student achievement council to conduct targeted outreach to high school students;
  • Interface and collaborate with K-12 administration, counselors, instructors, school district principals, specialized staff and support staff as necessary and appropriate to ensure a coordinated financial aid outreach effort;
  • Collaborate with CBC program department leads and faculty to support and facilitate coordinated activities;
  • Track students served, collect, analyze, and report on data related to financial aid objectives;
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to maintain current information to share with participants, and to plan financial aid outreach events;
  • Complete monthly outreach and recruitment reports;
  • Assist in maintaining a campus-wide outreach/recruitment calendar;
  • Complete assigned special projects and/or program responsibilities based on operational necessity and individual experience and skills;
  • Participate in professional development to stay current in professional field; and
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • One (1) year (consecutive 12 months) of experience in student services or related education experience;
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines while being attentive to details;
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, flexible and adaptable;
  • Developed skill in written and verbal communication including experience with large group presentations/training;
  • Familiarity with electronic technology and media and demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office and Internet research tools; and
  • Must have or be able to obtain at the time of hire, a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Bilingual and biliterate in English and in Spanish;
  • Experience with providing presentations and workshops;
  • Experience being a supervisor;
  • Demonstrated experience developing strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, parents and external constituencies;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of college recruitment strategies for underserved students including low income, first-generation, students of color, and students whose primary language is not English.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time, state funded, administrative position under a state-initiative and pilot program. This position is overtime eligible and the typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; however, work hours will vary due to work demands and some evening and weekend work may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including having the ability to move materials on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc. and travel between buildings on campus. Manual dexterity and coordination are required to operate equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.

Work environment includes office and other settings as appropriate. Work will be performed within an assigned high school as well as on the CBC campus as scheduled. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises. Willingness and ability to travel and work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends is a requirement.
