Visiting Assistant Professor in Engineering and Applied Science

Position Details

The Integrated Design, Engineering, Arts and Society ( IDEAS ) Program at Wesleyan University invites applications for a full-time visiting Assistant Professor position. The position begins September 1, 2023 for the 2023-24 academic year. The faculty member will teach introductory and sophomore-level courses in mechanical and/or electrical engineering, depending on the specific candidate experience. The successful applicant should possess a strong ability to work with individuals and student teams in project-based courses. Courses are primarily taught in a studio format in the IDEAS Lab makerspace, which features a wide range of rapid prototyping and digital manufacturing tools that are incorporated in project development. In introductory courses, many students come from art and design backgrounds, so the ability to effectively teach students with varying skill sets is required. The ability to bridge engineering with areas of design such as sustainable practice or product design, as well as to convey how engineering integrates with society at large, is also desirable. The primary responsibility of this position is a five-course per year load, including possible co-teaching of courses with existing faculty in the IDEAS program. Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s degree in engineering or a closely-related field and teaching experience, which may include teaching as a graduate student; project-based or lab teaching experience preferred.
