Job Summary:

Lead coordinator for the Coyotes Achieve (CA) program. A comprehensive equity gap program that cohorts students that are entering CSUSB underprepared in math and/or English, with a high school GPA of 3.0 or below and are one or a combination of CSU Chancellor's office defined equity gap categories. The incumbent oversees both summer and academic year support to serve historically marginalized students of color, first generation and Pell eligible students. Criteria will include the CSU Chancellor's Office definition of Underrepresented Minorities (URM) which include African American, Hispanic/Latinx, and American Indian students. First generation students are defined by CSUSB as neither parent has earned a bachelor's degree.

Major duties and responsibilities



Lead Coordination
  • Responsible for the development, growth, and strategic planning of the Coyotes Achieve Program. Requires independent decision making.
  • Contributes to the strategic planning process as it pertains to DEI which informs practices and policies of the CA program and student development team.
  • Development and implementation of student success curriculum and programming for underserved populations that are primarily first generation, low-income, and/or underrepresented students incorporating a diversity, equity, and inclusion framework.
  • Identify and develop strategies to increase the success rates of General Education courses during the first year, specifically English, Mathematics, Oral Communication and Critical Thinking otherwise referred to as the golden four.
  • Identify and develop strategies to increase levels of academic outcomes (e.g., retention and graduation) for underserved students.
  • Collaborate with faculty to monitor student progress with early alert progress reports.
  • Provides leadership support for CA cohort and academic coaches to identify solutions and resolve highly complex academic, personal, and professional issues, as they arise.
  • Works with the director of Assessment and Student Development on the broader campus community on issues related to educational equity, diversity, inclusion and student retention and success
  • Recruitment, participation, and engagement in the program for CSUSB academic career of students
  • Recruits, hires, and serves in a lead role of academic coaches.
  • Responsible for the professional and leadership development of academic coaches, formulates performance goals and evaluations, and provides regular and ongoing feedback.
  • Independently applies and enforces knowledge of university policy, procedures, advising tools, and more.

Programming
  • Provides leadership, academic support, and transitional summer programming to incoming first year participating Coyotes Achieve students including but not limited to; 1) CA sections of USTD curriculum development and support for instructors, 2) student engagement programming, 3) community building within CA incoming cohort of FTF, 4) facilitating peer led break out discussion and reflection sessions, 5) academic advising and mentoring, 6) promote college transition and sense of belonging during summer programming. Requires high level knowledge of underserved student populations, academic interventions, curriculum development, faculty affairs and best practices to create policies and procedures to launch a successful summer bridge program.
  • Provides oversight and leadership of student support programming through a battery of required participation in academic success programs including tutoring, mentoring and academic advising.
  • Monitors academic progress of CA participants utilizing Navigate and campus advising and e-platforms.
  • Leads the effort to increase CA students' institutional identification, self-efficacy, sense of empowerment, understanding of college life and responsibilities, and sense of belonging on campus.
  • Incorporates high impact practices and peer to peer interaction in program development and implementation.
  • Incorporates counseling techniques as they relate to academic success/concerns, career, cognitive and psychosocial development, college transition, student engagement, and sense of belonging.

Partnerships
  • Partners with campus faculty, student, staff organizations to develop equity driven programming and growth opportunities for student success with ALFSS, BFSSA, LGBTQFSSA, LEAD, and more.
  • Partners with campus constituents to develop equity driven programming and growth opportunities for student success with Early Start Program, academic departments and faculty, Office Registrar, Admissions, and College of Extended and Global Education, and more.
  • Serves on appropriate committees and campus organizations, representing the interests of the program and ASUA.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
  • Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
  • A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job‑related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.

Required Qualifications

Experience fostering and maintaining effective relationships and ability to work collaboratively across organizational lines and coordinate the efforts of multiple areas is essential.

Must be able to exercise professional judgement and discretion, making decisions on a regular basis that impact student success, the department, and the institution.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and in large groups.

Public speaking and ability to reason logically analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data.

Remains current regarding trends and developments in higher education, student development theory, high-impact practices related to advising, transition and student success. Will remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, the development of professional contacts with colleagues, attendance at professional development courses/conferences, and trainings, as directed, by the Director.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts.

Demonstrated multicultural/cross-cultural competency and commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.

Additional specialized experience during which the SSP IV has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of the college programs to which assigned.

Knowledge of the overall operation, functions, and programs of the campus to which assigned.

Ability to interpret, apply, and explain program rules and regulations.

Take initiative and exercise resourcefulness in advising practice.

Ability to translate student development, leadership theory, and research into practice.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree required from an accredited university in Higher Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Must have three (3) years of professional experience in providing direct services to students in a higher education environment and/or at least three (3) years working in a student learning center, academic success center, or an academic advising center.

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $ 6769 per month

Classification Salary Range: $5732 - $8176 per month
