Position Summary

The Dining Database Support Specialist provides clerical and database support to Housing Dining. Housing Dining operates 9 residential dining venues for over 4,800 resident students, 7 retail dining venues, UO Catering, and Central Kitchen operations.

Duties include:
Maintain Inventory, Recipe, POS, and other data to support Dining Services operations. Includes adding new or correcting inventory items; maintaining data regarding market lists and packages; entering and updating recipes to be accurate in measurements of ingredients and methods of preparation; inputting invoices; preparing reports and documents; enter and print product labels, maintaining nutrition database; assisting staff and answer questions regarding the use of databases. Provide general office assistance as assigned to assist Dining Managers and Staff in the operation of dining services.

On a daily basis, this position interacts with co-workers such as Dining Service Managers, Chef, Dining staff, and Student staff. This full-time, 12-month position reports to the Assistant Director of the Dining area as assigned. Schedules may change based upon the operational needs of the unit.

Work conditions and physical demands are typical of those found in the food service industry. These conditions may include slippery floors, extreme temperatures, heavy lifting and standing for long periods.

Special Requirements
  • Must have, or ability to obtain, a Lane County Food Handler's card within 2 weeks of employment.
  • Must take and be able to understand Hazard Communication Training supplied by the employer.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR
  • An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR
  • Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.
    College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

    Professional Competencies

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with database applications, and ability to learn new software
  • Accurate data entry skills
  • Math skills and culinary knowledge for purpose of recipe calculation and merchandise arrival
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to complete reports and forms and understand policies and safety information.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with or knowledge of how food is ordered and received into a commercial kitchen
