Police Dispatcher (Swing Shift)

The dispatcher serves as the first point of contact for campus police officers, students, members of the College community and other outside Public Safety agencies.

This is an essential position that reports to the Day Shift Lieutenant.
This is a full-time union position, 40 hours a week condensed into three days:
Friday from 11:00 pm to Saturday at 7:00 am,
Saturday from 11:00 pm to Sunday at 3:00 pm, and
Monday from 7:00 am- 11:00 pm.

Functions of the Position:
  • Receive phone calls as well as walk-in reports for emergency and public safety-related matters, general college information, facilities management issues, and housing questions; refer said calls to appropriate departments
  • Maintain radio communication with officers, dispatch officers to emergency and service calls, monitor BAPERN radio system, and transmit emergency messages to the community through the ENS system when required
  • Monitor campus-wide camera, access and alarm systems via various means.
  • Documenting all activity in department log
  • Document reported lost ID's, and issue temporary ID's, as necessary, to community members authorized to access
  • Access CJIS/LEAPS terminal for the officers in the field



QUALIFICATIONS
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • Able to pass an FBI Fingerprint supported Background Check
  • Willingness to work extended, non-scheduled, hours.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills, PC skills, and the ability to handle confidential information and multi-task
  • Requires the ability to effectively communicate in person and through communication and the need to concentrate, intellectually, for extended periods of time
  • Requires the ability to effectively communicate in person
  • Ability to concentrate, for extended periods of time
  • Ability to sit for several hours at a time.


PHYSICAL ABILITIES
  • Ability to Multi-Task
  • Availability to sit for an extended period of time between 8-16 hours a day
  • Ability to monitor 8-10 computer screens containing IP Cameras, Alarm Monitoring, Voice Monitoring systems
  • Ability to monitor audio radio system and respond to any calls for service via the monitored radio networks
  • Ability to answer telephone calls for service and provide information to callers requesting service via telephone
  • Ability to lift 10-25 pounds

COMPENSATION

Starting salary for this position is $21.53 hourly. This is a full-time union position, 40 hours a week condensed into three days

Employees are also eligible for subsidized parking at the Boston Common Garage.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40.00

This position will be exclusively represented by the American Coalition of Public Safety (ACOPS) for purposes of wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
