University Counselor II
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced University Counselor II at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
·The University Counselor II position will be responsible for providing academic and personal counseling services for approximately 200 medical students from matriculation through graduation. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Career Development.
· Responsible for the daily provision of academic and personal counseling services for a minimum case assignment of 200 medical students from matriculation through graduation.
· Work with students individually and in groups in various activities and programs focused on emotional health, academic success, professional development and career advising on a daily basis.
· Assist in the implementation and evaluation of health and wellness programming which meet the ever changing needs of medical students.
· Represent the Office of Student Affairs and Career Development on various School of Medicine and University committees and functions.
· Participate in the regional and national activities of the AAMC
·Other duties as assigned
Unique duties:
Qualifications:
Master’s degree required in counseling and guidance, student personnel, social work and/or psychology.
Preferred qualifications:
· Three year experience in working with students. Medical student experience preferred. · Knowledgeable about mental health, human services referral agencies in the tri-county area. · Ability to handle conflict resolution and crisis, emotional and psychological needs of the young adult medical student. · Responsive to the needs of others. · Work cooperatively and collaboratively with others. · Must be flexible, creative and have the ability to remain objective. · Dedicated to organizational excellence. · General knowledge and understanding of student policies and procedures and administrative structure. · Experience in the mental health realm/field strongly preferred
