Job Description Summary
Product Development Research Specialist A will provide support for multiple research projects related to improving cell and gene therapy product development at the Center for Cellular Immunotherapies (CCI) of the University of Pennsylvania. This individual will report directly to the Product Development Scientific Manager of the Product Development Laboratory (PDL) and will support all development projects and research activities as assigned.
Job Description
Primary duties will include processing and cryopreservation of patient cells and tissue for biobanking, generation of cell and gene therapy products (i.e., CAR-T cells) using lentiviral vectors and/or gene-editing platforms including CRISPR/Cas9 systems, and conducting cell-based characterization assays. Aseptic techniques and universal blood precautions will be observed. This individual may also perform in vivo experiments using murine models to assess anti-tumor function including animal handling, injection and imaging as needed. Other duties include development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), data analysis and presentation of findings, as well as general support of laboratory operations including materials and equipment management. Experience with handling, processing, and cryopreservation of primary human cells, and conducting polychromatic flow cytometry are preferred for this position. Finally, the Product Development Research Specialist A will undertake cross-functional engagement with other functional groups within CCI, including the Clinical Cell and Vaccine Production Facility (CVPF) and Translational and Correlative Sciences Laboratory (TCSL) teams for translation of new processes/genetically-engineered cellular products to the clinic.
Qualifications
B.S. biological science, biomedical engineering, or comparable field of study and 0-1 years of experience in laboratory environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Experience performing cell/tissue culture, and practicing aseptic techniques
- Demonstrated experience conducting polychromatic flow cytometry
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience with GLP/GMP/GxP laboratory operation
- Experience processing primary patient samples
- Experience conducting polychromatic flow cytometry
