ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF STUDENT ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES

Scope of Job:
Responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the Student Accessibility Services in the Office of Student Life and the Dean of Student, including the coordination of accommodations and services for students, staff, faculty and visitors with disabilities and supports the overall strategic objectives of the department. Manages, coordinates and facilitates programs, resources and procedures for students with disabilities that is consistent with all applicable laws and regulations.

Description of Duties:
  • Under general supervision from the Director of Student Accessibility Services, manages the day-to-day departmental activities, including provision of accommodations and services as well as planning and monitoring the achievement of departmental goals.
  • Acts as point of contact for all accessibility requests for students pursuing degrees in medical and health care field.
  • Participates in the preparation and administration of the program budget for assigned area; submits budget recommendations and monitors expenditures.
  • Oversees the maintenance of records and develops reports concerning new and ongoing programs and program effectiveness, as needed.
  • Assists in the design, implementation and evaluation of departmental programs and initiatives; identifies and communicates best practices in the provisions of services to students, faculty, and staff with disabilities.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of multiple projects or programs.
  • Reviews program records and reports of activities and recommends modifications to methods or procedures as required.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars related to the program’s mission and goals; represents department in official functions.
  • Provides ongoing staff development, on-site demonstrations and field-based experiences related to project or program.
  • Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations associated with and/or receiving benefit from the program.
  • Works directly with the students regarding Title IX pregnancy processes.
  • Develops and conducts training, presentations and professional development for faculty, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Designs and implements a wide variety of outreach activities to increase awareness of the Office of Student Accessibility Services, including campus and community events; drafts brochures, letters, agendas, and contracts.
  • Assists in the preparation and development of grant proposals.
  • Coordinates long and short-term programs, including performing feasibility studies and estimating the cost of the program.
  • At the direction of the director, may plan, develop, organize, and coordinate research and survey designs.
  • May coordinate and oversee tutorial, counseling, teaching, and/or training activities of the program.
  • Assists with revising technical standards for any applicable program.
  • Collaborates with deans, staff, and faculty, as indicated, to develop plans for the delivery and coordination of individualized accommodations and services.
  • Advises students seeking accommodations for Board exams and completes applicable documents related to these requests.
  • Determines reasonable and appropriate accommodations and/or services that maintain essential program requirements and are consistent with the program of study and school/college policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Master’s degree from an accredited university in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, psychology, social work, special education or a related field.

Preferred Education:
None.

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
• Two (2) years of work experience with students with disabilities; or
• Four (4) years of work experience with students with disabilities with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, psychology, social work, special education, or a related field.

Preferred Experience:
None.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required.

Knowledge of the ADA and other federal and state disability laws. Ability to initiate and coordinate programs and services and work in a team based environment. Ability to work independently and effectively with a diverse student body, faculty and staff. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and disability.
