Job Description Summary

Supports the vision and mission of Prince George’s Community College by expanding the college’s funding base through grants and other resources provided by government, private, corporate, and foundation sources. Responsible for leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of all advancement functions and private and public sector fundraising, including annual giving programs, alumni relations and fundraising, corporate and foundation relations, all public and private sector grants, major gifts, and campaign leadership. Oversees the Office of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations to ensure effective alumni engagement with PGCC . Works collaboratively across the college community to strategically advance academic, student, and college success. Manages and supervises the day-to-day operations of the Prince George’s Community College Foundation, Inc.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s Degree required
  • Minimum of five years of experience in mid-level management in development or fundraising in higher education.
  • Supervised personnel and administered programs for at least four years.
  • Training in corporate giving and fundraising

Criteria

CRITERIA : The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provides leadership and strategic direction for the college’s Office of Institutional Advancement, including supervision and management of the staff and oversight of the operations, budget, and systems that support efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Develop and implement a strategic and comprehensive institutional fundraising strategy that supports the College’s mission, vision, and goals.
  • Direct the day-to-day operations of the Office of Institutional Advancement and the Foundation, including maintaining up-to-date financial records accurately and in compliance with federal and state guidelines and college policies.
  • Develop and manage an effective annual giving campaign, including outreach to alumni
  • Develop and manage a planned giving campaign
  • Plan and implement fundraising events
  • Provides strategic guidance and leadership for all annual, campus, and capital campaigns as well as special events designed to secure donations, expand community support and build endowment funding for the college.
  • Build strong relationships with prospects, donors, and stakeholders, including soliciting gifts via in-person visits, individual or group presentations, and phone contact and producing marketing materials to support development goals
  • Acknowledge donor support by keeping donors informed of the impact of their gifts
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership and other faculty, staff, academic, and administrative partners to foster development-related initiatives and activities that support student success and guide strategic planning
  • Participate in the creation and implementation of the college’s integrated strategic plan and monitor and communicate performance metrics to measure progress on development goals
  • Provides leadership and support for the Foundation Board and all committees of the Board; serves as secretary of the Foundation Board.
  • Provides strategic consultation and assistance to six active committees of the Prince George’s Community College Foundation
  • Administers evaluative processes to ensure a top-performing unit and Foundation Board.
  • Communicates the Foundation’s mission and plans to donors, potential donors PGCC Foundation Board members, faculty/staff, students, alumni, and friends of PGCC
  • Assures that gifts are administered to honor the donors’ intent, investment policies, scholarship criteria, foundation by-laws, audit requirements, tax requirements, state requirements for charitable organizations, and college policies
  • Remains current on fundraising trends, ethics, laws, community fundraising events, national programs, and fundraising activities with community colleges in Maryland.
  • Manages Foundation records and historical data.
  • Oversees alumni relations efforts to recruit friends, advocates, and volunteers that support the mission of the college.
  • Collaborates with the Financial Aid Office to administer scholarships funded through individual endowments and/or grants.
  • Builds goodwill in the community, recognizes donors, and assists the president in cultivating potential major donors.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to secure maximum grant funding to the college through the submission of strong and well-written, well-placed grants and partnership opportunities.
  • Ensures that advancement efforts are included in internal and external marketing and communication efforts, including print, publications, social media, TV, radio, billboards, website, etc.
  • Ensures that external audiences are cultivated to enhance the college’s visibility and reputation locally, statewide, and nationally.
  • Attends and networks through a variety of college and community events such as conferences, receptions, cultural events, productions, etc. and engage with civic organizations and professional associations that will advance the college.
  • Participates in professional organizations to keep current with advancement/development best practices and networks
  • Attends Board of Trustees monthly meetings
  • Performs other related work as required
Job Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment, such as but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and or repetitive motions.

  • Must be able to work Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Flexibility required)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
