Position Details:

This full-time faculty position is on-campus and in-person.

The Associate Dean will have an appointment within the John V. Roach Honors College and will report directly to the Honors College Dean. The ideal candidate will be both an administrator and a Teacher-Scholar. The teaching load will be 1:1 for the first year and possible assignment of a 1:2 or 2:1 load in subsequent years, as needed by the college. The Associate Dean will have the freedom to design and teach innovative courses that work within the Honors College’s interdisciplinary curriculum. If the Associate Dean holds the rank of associate professor with tenure, the responsibility for review and potential promotion to full professor will rest with the Honors College, in accordance with the Policy on Appointment, Promotion, Tenure and Merit Pay (approved 2021), which aligns with TCU policies.

The preferred candidate will:
• possess significant experience in academic administration and leadership;
• have experience working with Honors students and faculty;
• bring interdisciplinary experiences to their work as a teacher and scholar

Duties and responsibilities include:
The overall responsibility of the Associate Dean will be to share major duties of the Dean’s office, with particular attention to academic and faculty issues. More specifically, the Associate Dean will perform the following duties.

Policy and Committee Duties
• Provide leadership, along with the Honors College Dean, on strategic planning and related reporting.
• Serve as the Chair of the Honors College Curriculum Committee (HCCC), maintain committee records, and partner with chairs of the other Honors College Council committees (Honors College Council and Honors College Advisory Committee) to ensure a timely and smooth rotation in the compositional structure of each committee.
• Forward approved proposals to the Undergraduate Council,
• Serve as the Honors representative on any other university-wide ad hoc committees when appropriate, and serve as a Honors College Dean when appropriate.
• Represent the Honors College at various meetings and functions (inside and outside TCU),
• Network with all other TCU Associate Deans,
• Give reports as needed to the college to keep faculty and staff current on campus-wide activities.

Academic Responsibilities
• Direct the development, vetting, and assessment of an innovative and interdisciplinary curriculum in a transparent fashion involving all appropriate TCU colleges and faculty.
• Request and implement Honors courses from all other colleges in the university
• Oversee grade appeals, complaints, issues of academic misconduct, grade changes, Honors contracts, and curricular exceptions
• Serve as a liaison with the office of Campus Life, the Registrar’s Office, and all other colleges regarding course offerings.
• Work with college administration to review and approve course schedules; submit course schedules to the Registrar’s Office; and approve changes to course schedules after submission.
• Oversee requirements, assignments and content for efforts related to undergraduate research
• Review and approve the Honors College “form library” annually, in collaboration with Honors administration team
• Conduct and/or delegate and monitor, meaningful assessment efforts of both student success and faculty teaching efforts.

Honors Faculty Coordination Duties
• Approve non-unit faculty appointments for fall and spring semesters
• Manage orientation and transition of new Honors faculty, oversee reappointment committees and convey recommendations of the Dean
• Assist the Dean in the recruitment, evaluation, retention and compensation of Teacher-Scholars in the college.
