Responsibilities
Summary

In collaboration with the Strategic Communications and Marketing teams, the Social Media and Digital Content Manager supports the mission of Saint Mary's College of California by creating and implementing integrated content and digital strategy for the College's digital communication and marketing platforms, with a focus on social media. The Social Media and Digital Content Manager will also provide scheduled reports, audits, and analysis related to content, campaigns, and advertising.

The incumbent will build, plan, and implement an overall social media strategy that works in concert with marketing and content strategy. The incumbent will also develop and implement social media plans, manage social media channels, drive brand planning/implementation on those channels, and lead generation campaigns to meet defined marketing KPIs. They will stay up to date with the latest social media tools and technology and educate teams on best practices. The incumbent will prioritize elevating the visuals, communications, and marketing strategies, ensuring high levels of traffic across multiple touchpoints and ultimately lifting digital presence across all digital channels. They will be involved in both strategy and execution.

Under the supervision of the Executive Director for Strategic Communications with a dotted line to the Executive Director of Marketing, the Social Media and Digital Content Manager will ensure that Saint Mary's digital presence is innovative and up to date to prospective/current students, campus stakeholders, alumni, and community partners as well as to new audiences. This will be achieved by collaborating closely with various campus stakeholders/partners (e.g. Enrollment Management, Advancement/Alumni Relations, Student Life, Mission and Ministry, Information Technology Services, Facilities Services) including but not limited to other senior marketing, design, and digital communication leaders, and marketing and communications operations. The Social Media and Digital Content Manager will lead, inform, and execute strategic and tactical digital marketing and communication plans related to and not limited to key College initiatives).

The ideal candidate for this position is an energetic and passionate professional who is up-to-date with the latest digital marketing, advertising, social media, web communication, audio, and video trends.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee strategic social media plans, publishing calendars, and content about Saint Mary's College of California.
  • Collaborate in developing content that encompasses the College, campus, programs, and differentiators that appeal to key audiences, including prospective and current undergraduate, transfer, and graduate students; faculty, staff, parents; alumni and college supporters;
  • Maintain broad and deep understanding of audiences, and identify new and timely opportunities for engagement.
  • Build calendars and campaigns to both grow and nurture followers through the institution's social media platforms.
  • Lead all social media listening and respond appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Create and present monthly analytical reports to demonstrate campaign performance and adjust campaign strategies and tactics as appropriate.
  • Oversee and execute day-to-day management of social media campaigns to ensure brand consistency. Facilitate and scale brand and university awareness through social media channels.
  • Work with the Executive Director of Strategic Communications and Content and Executive Director of Marketing to establish performance goals and KPIs; ensure progress on all platforms using appropriate analytical tools.
  • Track industry, news, and social media trends and stay abreast of developing best practices. Model these practices and provide regular guidance and training to other social media managers on campus.
  • Mentor and conduct regular one-on-one meetings with student workers, establish cascading goals for them and evaluate their performance.
  • Liaise with other college stakeholders and internal departments for a variety of social media campaigns.

  • Experience and Qualifications
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required to perform the Essential Functions

  • Knowledge in social media platforms/tools, and an understanding of audience demographics and how they use these platforms, to guide content and technology (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Google, Reddit, TikTok, blogs, wikis, RSS, etc., as well as tools such as Sprout, Later, and Hootsuite).
  • Ability to produce still photos, video images/videography, and live content for a variety of communications. Skills and ability with photo and video editing software (online and native applications, such as Photoshop and Premiere) is necessary.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of web and digital communications with the ability to develop and execute communications in video and evolving media.
  • Demonstrated strength in web content standards, blogging, email marketing, and social media marketing.
  • Experience developing and executing branding, messaging, advertising, marketing, and design strategy.
  • Knowledge in content management systems (e.g. Drupal, WordPress) to collaborate with colleagues in updating, curating, and managing digital content.
  • Knowledge in data and analytics to measure impact, create metrics reports and refine strategies (e.g., Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics, Search Engine Optimization, marketing automation, various social and digital tools.)
  • Experience in using a marketing automation platform (e.g. Hubspot, Adobe Marketo).
  • Experience with project management systems and ability to plan, update, and execute projects in coordination with multiple teams.
  • Expert content writing, editorial, interpersonal communication, active listening, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in presentation format.
  • Capable leader with skills to direct, manage, and edit the work of student social media assistants
  • Demonstrate personal initiative and ability to meet deadlines, follow through on assignments, take direction as necessary, attend to and communicate about the details of assignments, and juggle competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of web usability, accessibility, browser compatibility, design, prototyping and deploying mobile-friendly, responsive websites and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of digital trends, current affairs, and issues in higher education, with the ability to understand issues from a broad, strategic perspective.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse segments of the College; ability to build and maintain successful working relationships with staff, faculty, students, and other stakeholders.
  • Minimum Education
  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or other related fields.

  • Minimum Experience
  • 3 to 5 years of experience, with progressive responsibility including as a manager, in digital marketing, advertising, or communications in an educational institution.
  • Thorough understanding of integrating social media and online media strategies required.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates must be knowledgeable of AP Style and have a strong grasp of long and short form writing, styles, and standards for each social and digital channel.
  • Must be prepared to work some evenings and weekends for occasional events or high need situations.
