EAP and Recruitment Initiatives Coordinator- Early Assessment Program

Classification Title: Student Services Professional III

Classification Salary Range: $5,025 - $7,159 per month

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Department/Position:

Under the general direction of the Associate Director, Admissions and Recruitment, the Early Assessment Program (EAP) and Recruitment Initiatives Coordinator is responsible for developing innovative approaches to engage local high school students and staff in college readiness conversations; facilitating CSU-sponsored English and Mathematics professional development opportunities for local high school educators and identifying opportunities to meet with college ready students. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for meeting prospective students and their families/support systems to provide information about CSUDH enrollment and admission; these interactions will occur in individual and group settings. The incumbent also focuses on new Admissions and Recruitment Initiatives, conducts transcript evaluations, individual admission advisement, group admission advisement, and attends college fairs, local and non-local.

Evening and Weekend work required
Incumbent will drive personal vehicle for university business.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as DH liaison for Admission and Recruitment Initiatives aligned with the campus strategic plan.
  • Advises students from the prospective stage to enrollment.
  • Ensures students adhere to admission policy and requirements, financial aid policies and procedures, including students eligible for special programs and services Conducts and plans recruitment visits to schools/colleges; local and non-local.
  • Represents the regional Early Assessment Program (EAP) at meetings with the CSU Office of Academic Success and Inclusive Excellence and the Centers for the Advancement of Reading/Writing and of instruction in Quantitative Reasoning.
  • Delivers EAP/academic preparation classroom presentations, offers individual and group school advising. Coordinates CSU Expository Reading and Writing Course and CSU Mathematical Reasoning with Connections teacher seminars.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
  • Experience: The equivalent of three (3) years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.

A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
  • General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned.
  • General knowledge of individual counseling techniques.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze, and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of CSUDH enrollment policies as well as admission requirements for incoming first-year students including Freshmen and Transfer. Working knowledge of student services programs.
  • Ability to: Provide exceptional customer service to all constituents, exceptional communication skills, plan and coordinate EAP events. Manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with constituents.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Enrollment Market Platform (EMP) and PeopleSoft.
  • CSU admission and enrollment standards.
  • CSU Recruitment experience
  • Skills in public speaking, communicating effectively in writing.
  • General knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned.
  • Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
  • Advise students individually and in groups on complex student‑related matters.
  • Determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
  • Carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
