Associate Director/Program Attorney OPG

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR/ATTORNEY - THE OFFICE OF THE PUBLIC GUARDIAN FOR THE SEVENTEENTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT (BROWARD COUNTY)

Associate Director/Attorney - St. Thomas University, Inc., d/b/a Office of the Public Guardian (“OPG”). The office is located in Davie, Florida. OPG is the appointed public guardian for the 17th Judicial Circuit pursuant to section 744.2006, Florida Statutes. In Florida, public guardians serve incapacitated persons of limited financial means in situations where there is no family member or friend, other person, bank, or corporation willing and qualified to serve as guardian.

Applicant must be a licensed Florida attorney in good standing with five years or more experience. Applicant should have expertise and knowledge in the area of Florida guardianship law including, but not limited to, preparing and filing petitions for incapacity, appointment of guardianship, drafting and filing various other petitions, handling contested and uncontested hearings, and closing out of guardianship cases after the death of a ward. Ability to interface and advocate effectively with multiple government agencies and private agencies, including working with local governments. The attorney will supervise law students who will be interning at OPG. Applicant must be available by phone/email to assist with emergency situations that may occur on weekends and evenings.

Tuition Benefit

After 1 year of continuous full‐time service, employees are eligible to enroll in STU’s bachelor and master courses, tuition‐free. The program will cover a maximum timeframe of 125% of credit hours attempted toward the degree program. Employees may enroll in STU’s doctoral program, with a 40% tuition discount, under the same conditions.
