Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Geospatial Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting independent research and assisting with ongoing geospatial research projects at UMSL Geospatial Collaborative. This position is a full-time, temporary appointment for up to two years.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct independent research in geospatial science using advanced analytical and statistical techniques with a focus on addressing important societal and environmental challenges.
• Develop and implement geospatial models and algorithms to analyze complex spatial data.
• Work collaboratively with other researchers and contribute to ongoing geospatial research projects.
• Collect, process, and analyze geospatial data from various sources such as satellites, drones, and ground-based sensors.
• Prepare reports, manuscripts, and presentations of research findings for publication and conference presentation.
• Writing and submitting grant proposals to prestigious federal funding agencies such as NSF.
• Assist with teaching geospatial courses as needed.
• Mentor graduate students and participate in the training of junior staff.

Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in Geography, Geomatics, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or related field with a strong focus on geospatial science, with no more than 2 years post-doctoral experience.
• Knowledge of remote sensing, GIS, and spatial statistics.
• Expertise in geospatial analysis and modeling techniques.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and/or MATLAB.
• Experience with geospatial software packages such as ArcGIS, and ENVI.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Evidence of research productivity such as publications in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings.
